Jaidyn Logan Surgeries

Please meet 13 year old Jaidyn. She is a beautiful, strong, determined, intelligent little girl with a great attitude and personality (not to mention a miracle child). Jaidyn has a special way of touching everyone’s heart and can definitely light up a room. One early Monday morning in 2006 (at the age of 1 ½) Jaidyn’s fight began. Doctors diagnosed her with a rare Astrocytoma Cancerous tumor (rare tumor associated with brain tumors) on the spine. At that time Jaidyn was placed at the Barbara Busch Children’s Hospital and underwent a long 11hr operation to remove the tumor. Doctors had to remove some of the bone in little Jaidyn’s neck to get to where the tumor was and to try and remove it. They were unable to remove the entire tumor which then led Jaidyn straight to Chemotherapy. Jaidyn received a total of 60 treatments for the next year.

In, 2008 Jaidyn had another MRI and unfortunately the news was not good…the tumor had come back with a vengeance and needed immediate care. She was accepted into the Children’s Hospital Boston because of the technology difference and that is where she went under another 14hr surgery to remove the tumor. They were able to remove the tumor to the best of their knowledge.

In 2009, Jaidyn was scheduled for another MRI in Boston and the following week the devil had set in again. In October, poor Jaidyn underwent another 14 hr operation only to find this time that the tumor had wrapped itself around the spinal cord. Thanks to Dr. Michael Scott (one of the top pediatric surgeons in the world), he saved Jaidyn once again.

In the fall of 2010, Jaidyn had another MRI to find out that yet AGAIN the tumor was back. She went under the knife for another dangerous 14 hr surgery to remove the tumor from her spine. When entering the I.C.U. doctors told Dan & Missy (grandparents) that they had lost signals to Jaidyn’s right leg and therefore may not be able to use it again. When sweet Jaidyn woke up from anesthesia she looked at Grampy (Dan) and asked “Grampy could you please help me, my right leg is stuck to the bed”? Knowing the situation all he could do was tell her to give it time and it will be ok. Good news…she got feeling back and was up walking 2 days later. The doctors were completely amazed and just couldn’t believe it and ended up calling her their “miracle child”. A week later she was home relaxing and healing.

In 2011, poor Jaidyn had another MRI and was sadly diagnosed with another tumor. This time the tumor had actually forced its way inside her spinal cord. In October of 2011, Jaidyn, Grampy (Dan) & Grammy (Missy) were at Children’s Hospital Boston. This time the operation (another 14 hrs) was a lot more dangerous, a lot more complicated and had some high dangers (dying or total paralysis) as Jaidyn had also developed spinal kyphosis and they had to open her spinal cord up to remove the tumor from inside it. They also had to screw what they called a tether from the back of her neck to the lower side bottom of her back. The reason for this was because of so many operations that her poor back muscles had now become too weak to hold her up from bending in half. During the surgery, Jaidyn lost a lot more blood than expected and had to have a blood transfusion, the doctors lost all signals to her lower half (no bowels, legs, feet, no movement of any kind except her two big toes). By 10am the next morning Jaidyn “miracle child” had regained all of her limbs and was walking.

In November 2014, Jaidyn went in for her yearly normal MRI. Two days later (Thursday), Dr. Scott called and said there were no tumors and no cancer, but it appeared that her spine had taken a very large drop and that she needed to be seem immediately (like Friday). That following Monday they went to Children’s Hospital Boston to find out that the tether they had installed had failed and she is now collapsing within her own body. If this is not corrected it could definitely be a risk to her life as she folds in half and smothers herself.

In November 2017, at Jaidyn’s MRI it was discovered that her spine has a significant curvature of her spinal cord and that her spinal cord is very narrow and has lost some of its mass due to all her surgeries. Her doctors feel that there is not much more time to wait. So, they have decided to start physical therapy which she should be able to finish within the next few weeks. Sometime in January 2018 Jaidyn will be going back Children’s Hospital Boston to have her spinal halo installed to help straighten her spine the best that they can. She could be there for up to 10 days. Roughly 2 ½ months later she will have to again undergo another surgery to have the failed tether removed and will have metal rods and pins installed in her back. It appears that her spinal cord has attached itself to some of her muscles so trying to straighten her back out is a bigger than HUGE operation with a HUGE risk of life paralysis (wheel chair bound) due to how narrow her spinal cord is. This operation is not an option because if they do not do it she could eventually suffocate herself with the curvature of her spine on her lungs.

So, this is what brings me to Gofundme.com. Dan & Missy have exhausted their funds, downsized some things and have sold things (including a lifetime classic car) to fund what her medical insurance did not cover, daycare for Jusiah & Caylub, hotel rooms, food, gas, etc. and will have these expenses all over again. Sadly, this is going to be a huge setback for this precious 13 year old. Jaidyn could be there this time up to 2 months learning how to walk and move all over again.
Dan & Missy are the type of people to give, not receive and will not ask for help. That is why I am personally asking for your help so they can help Jaidyn with expenses for these dangerous, sad, upcoming surgeries while trying to take care of her other two siblings. Any donation given will be taken with great thanks, appreciated and heart felt emotions. Thank you for taking the time to read and for your generous donation!
