Saving Jade
We urgently ask for your help in raising $500,000 for our brilliant and beautiful daughter, Jade, who is battling the rare degenerative neurologic disease Myasthenia Gravis that has taken over her life. Jade has the most severe form of the illness (refractory) and her case is complicated by Lupus and Rheumatoid Arthritis.

PLEASE VISIT HER WEBSITE/BLOG TO READ HER COMPLETE STORY, AN EXCELLENT Q & A SECTION, AND SEE PHOTOS.   http://www.absconditabellum.wordpress.com

Friends, please understand that no donation is too small, seriously, and we are sincerely grateful for every single dollar donated.

On bad days (most days), Jade cannot  see, read, speak, swallow, breathe on her own, or move a muscle.  As a prisoner of this terrible illness, she lives with excruciating nerve and muscle pain and, unfortunately, painkillers have no effect upon her condition.  She is homebound and reliant on a home nurse and a motorized wheelchair, and is often unable to communicate.

We never imagined we would ever be in this position–asking for donations to save Jade's life–yet we are determined to do so. Time is of the essence, as Jade continues to decline, in spite of the medications (taken every 3 hours 24/7) that keep her alive.

There is only one therapy left that may save Jade's life–HSCT (Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation). This treatment removes stem cells from her bone marrow before her immune system is wiped out with chemotherapy. After chemo, her own stem cells will be reintroduced to her body–thus resetting her malfunctioning immune system with a healthy one. The treatment requires a lengthy hospitalization (3 months in quarantine) at a medical research center engaged in FDA clinical trials, in the United States. Jade is ready and willing (and strong and brave) to undergo HSCT.

We wish to see her thrive, again, and reach her potential. She dreams of doing the things that once gave her pleasure, from reading and painting, to playing violin and hiking. In spite of illness, she works toward her goals of a career in science, refining her inventions and studying the cosmos. Were she not limited by debilitating illness, there is no telling what she could accomplish.

Based upon the treatment schedule, we must raise the total amount by early Summer of 2019.

Your gifts will be deposited directly into a Bank of America account, to be accessed by the medical center. The initial fee to enter the clinical trial is $350,000, plus $150,000 to cover the lengthy hospitalization required during recovery, thus the medical center will not admit her until the entire $500,000 is in the bank.

We believe that with your generous gifts, along with love, faith, and prayer, we can save her precious life.

In deepest gratitude to all,

Juliana & Evo

Dear Donors,
We are learning about the power of sharing links. One’s chances of meeting the GoFundMe goal are increased fivefold when the link is shared!
When sharing the links to both Jade’s GoFundMe page and to her Wordpress blog, would you please include a note, to your friends and associates, that lets them know we are good people, that this campaign is legit, and not a ruse or scam.
We do receive gifts from total strangers, and this is wonderful because it restores our faith in humanity. Some of you know all of us; others know Evo, but neither myself nor Jade. Whatever the case, we want everyone to know how much all your gifts mean to us, and we are honored that you might share these links with your contacts.
Yes, we are in a desperate situation and we really need your shares to successfully raise such a large sum. Whether sharing via GoFundMe or Facebook, Twitter, and instagram, or sharing the links via your email—saying a good word or two about us will go a long way in terms of your recipients understanding that this is not just a blind share. You’re sharing because you really do care and we are ever grateful. Thank you. J

Hello Dear Donors,
We’re trying to write updates on a weekly basis, and this one is a bit late. The surgeon removed one port and left the other one in. Jade is faced with choices regarding the use of the existing port . . . and we are uncertain if she will undergo more plasmapheresis treatments or opt for the chemo drug Rituxan that is sometimes helpful in MG cases. Until the HSCT is scheduled, there’s not much more the docs can do for her. Despite continual pain and debilitating weakness, Jade remains optimistic. All of your good energy and prayers DO make a difference and thank you very much for sending Jade words of encouragement and love. We are all deeply appreciative of your support, and we thank you all for your help. Thank you and kindest regards,
Juliana, Jade’s Mom

PS: when sharing the links (via social media or by email) to both her GoFundMe page and the link to her web blog, it greatly helps if you send a personal note to your contacts that explains why you care about helping Jade. Even if you don’t know her, personally, It really makes a difference when people who know you realize that this is a serious case and that this is a trustworthy campaign. Many thanks to all.

Jade’s partner, Adrien, just told us that she’s out of surgery and a bit groggy. We don’t know yet if they put new ports in, but they did remove the old. She had an infection at one port site and the other one had something wrong, too, so we’re waiting to hear details. She was in a private pre-op room and now in private recovery because she is extremely immunocompromised. Just entering a hospital, in her current state is dangerous due to risk of infection. Thanks, everyone, for your loving support and kind words. We will make sure your comments are read aloud to her. Sending light and love to all,
Juliana & Evo

Another update for Jade’s supporters! Recently, we wrote that she had a difficult week of medical intervention ahead. Well, we just found out that she will have surgery today (re: her ports) and so we ask you all to please send her your healing loving energy via meditations, prayers, and good will. Jade is unbelievably strong inside her core being. She, too, will focus on all the healing energy you send. We are so grateful for everyone’s support. We will post another update, later today. As parents of a critically ill child, we cannot begin to tell you how devastated we are and how deeply we lean on our loving community within this campaign. Thank you, thank you for all that each of you do to better humanity, to help our daughter with your good thoughts and deeds. Sincere regards to each of you,
Juliana & Evo
