Fighting cancer

I’m 36 years old woman, mother of two daughters, 11 and 2 years. During the Christmas 2016 I was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer which has spread to lymphs. In January my left breast was removed together with 14 lymphs. Supposedly the operation went well.

I was able to spent few days home when suddenly everything started to go downhill. I had serious dizziness and I was vomiting. I was able to lay on the bed only in one position, I coulnd’t move myself as the dizziness was unbearable. Ambulance took me to hospital. I was laying in the bed for two weeks in the same position. I lost a lot of weight. They did different magnetic and computer tests and studies but didn’t find anything. Slowly I was able to eat something. Once there was lack of air in my lungs. I was breathing the air in but nothing reached to my lungs. They called it panic attack. I was sent home and doctors gave me antidepressants. Planned chemotherapy was postponed one month so I could recover myself a bit.

First week home was already better. I managed to eat and was able to move around a bit. On the second week side effects started to appear form the antidepressants. Day by day my swallowing did get worse, bruises on my legs, my lip was swallen and panic attacs came back. I started of with 5-6 panic attacs a day, soon it turned to 5-6 per hour. I wasn’t able to swallow at all, only rinse my mouth with water. I lost a lot of weight, ended up with only 48 kg. Ambulace came many times during the night and eventually they took me back to hospital.

In the hospital I had very strong panic attacs what my partner never even seen in the movies. To keep these panic attacs a little bit under control I was injected some calming medicine straigt to my veins.I can’t remember those moments myself, I guess I lost the consciousness.

They changed my medicine and panic attacs started to fade. I gained a bit of weight and they sent me home after 3 weeks in hospital. I started the chemo. Caused by chemo I had cramps and my legs were shaking so much, that my partner had to hold them steady using his force. From the hospital they gave my something what should relax my muscles but it didn’t help. My partner had to drag me to the toilet, to the bed and to the shower. I wasn’t able to move at all. Because my feet were bending themselves inwards I wasn’t able to wear any footwear and my toes were scratched from this toilet-shower-bed route. After a month doctors decided to change my chemo medicine – CEF. My legs didn’t had any improvement and I ended up again in the hospital. Doctors kept their eyes on me, they did different tests and I was doing some physiotherapy. I started to learn how to walk again. With some support I was able to make my first steps.

Because I was in the same position for a long time I also had lot of tension on my neck and arms. I couldn’t keep my head up, it just was hanging on my chest.

Third chemo. Again CEF. After a week I was back in square one. Cramps in my legs aswell as they were vibrating again. Back to the hospital. Lots of tests, some of them were even sent to Germany. The result was, that cancer has damaged my immune system. I had a 6 day drip of cortisone, 3 hours every day. I started to learn how to walk again the third time.

Fourth chemo. This time they decided to give my something not so strong, but because of this I have a chemo every week now. I practice walking, although I could use a lot more of phsyio therapy. My right hand doesn’t move much and my left heel can’t touch the ground yet but I can walk if someone holds my hand.

During this difficult time my partner has always stood next to me. He gave up his job in February 2017 to look after our baby girl and me. The older daughter has her needs and problems aswell what need attention. My partner sold all his bicycles and equipment to cover our everyday expenses. All he has left is his medals and trophies reminding him his career as a proffessional cyclist. Unfortunately so far we havn’t received any financal support from the government because of bureaucracy.

We have to go to different hospitals many times a week to give blood samples and get different drips what might last up to 10 hours. If things start go wrong, then it doesn’t seem to end. At the moment our car is in the workshop and the engine needs to be repaired. Total cost with parts and labour is around 2000€. My hospital bills have been growing and we can’t pay these anymore. My kids need food and clothes. Organic food is expensive. I also should have my own physiotherapist which we can’t afford.

I will be fine eventually, I know I will be because my kids need me.

Every cent matters, if you can help our family, please do so. We are greatful from the bottom of our hearts.

Money will be used to pay hospital bills, car repair and everyday expenses. The closest treatment for me what I could use is located in Budapest at Gerson Healrh Centre. Two weeks treatment will cost 6500€ + my partner 900€. This would help me get back on track and then I can continue my recovery at home
