Study abroad trip in Spain!

Hello Everyone,

I would like to take the time to say thank you for visiting Colby's page and considering funding him. Colby is currently a Junior at Ouachita Baptist  University located in Arkansas where he is majoring in Biology and a minor in Chemistry, maintaining a steady 3.5 GPA. Since the age of 11 years old, Colby has had a sincere passion for Obstetrics and Gynecology.  He was recently accepted into the AAMC credentialed Atlantis Fellowship where he will have the opportunity to study abroad for 3 weeks during the Summer of  2019 in Spain! He will have a minimum of 20 hours per week doing clinical shadowing at Hospital Virgen De La Luz, where he will be studying many different specialties such as geriatrics, OB/GYN, traumatology, anesthesiology, neurology, digestive and much more...

WHAT WILL $4000 GO TOWARDS?

Our goal is to reach $4000 which is the program fee only. The program fee includes housing, 3 group meals per week, light breakfast everyday, internal group transportation, weekly cultural excursions, Atlantis 24/7 on site support through Site Managers, travel health insurance and a emergency local phone or SIM card.

We will be responsible for airfare ($1500), lab coat and any meals outside of the group meals.

HOW WILL STUDYING ABROAD IMPACT HIS FUTURE GOALS?

Colby's response:

Shadowing abroad is an opportunity of a lifetime. Not only would getting the chance to participate in such do things like make my resume and medical school application stand out, but it would also be a good personal experience. According to some research and reviews from other people that have been through the study abroad with Atlantis Fellowship, I have heard tons of good feedback such as how life changing the whole experience was for them. Although I do have some shadowing experience here in the states, I would be more likely to benefit from the comparison of healthcare styles from different places. I realize that my whole life has been centered around only American healthcare where Atlantis could allow me to assess the pros and cons of each. Long term wise, if I were to be fortunate enough to get accepted to this fellowship I truly believe that I could use this chance to fuel me closer to pursuing my goals as this could serve as a type of extrinsic motivation to even help me finish undergraduate strongly. When I become the doctor that I’ve always desired to be, I will recommend and assist students who desire to shadow abroad to further their medical knowledge and exposure. This is a life changing opportunity that no student should be deprived of in pursuit of their medical dreams and goals.

WHEN IS THE MONEY DUE?

The money for this study opportunity will be paid in installments starting in November 2018 and has to be paid in full by March 2019. We would like to get this paid as soon as possible so we can focus on funds for airfare.  Colby will be working as many hours as he can when he is home for Christmas break.
