My name is Matt Kerr and I would love your help for my nephew, Jacob Kerr and his incredible Mother, Father and little Sister.
After beating neuroblastoma at age 5, Jacob lived a normal life for 12 years before cancer delivered a one-two punch. At 17, Jacob developed a secondary cancer (osteosarcoma) on his pelvis in a spot he had received radiation during his first cancer treatment and most of his right pelvic bone was removed.
It is Jacob’s goal to go to UVic to study computer science. Despite his intensive second treatment of chemotherapy and surgery, Jacob finished high school, applied to university, and was awarded
scholarships. At 18, Jacob spent his year doing grueling physical therapy so that he could walk when he went to university. In May 2018, he completed a 5 km walk/run to prove that he could do it!
In late August 2018, at almost 19 years old, and a month prior to starting university, Jacob developed another painful, aggressive osteosarcoma in his jaw. The family is heartbroken to learn that the tumor is inoperable.
Jacob’s dad, mom, and sister have always been with him 100% along the way. Right now they want to be with him for his palliative radiation treatments in Vancouver. The family will be dividing their time between Canuck Place in Vancouver and their home in Central Saanich, depending on Jacob’s care needs.
This is where we need help. The costs of caring for a family increase when medical issues take the forefront. The Kerrs want to spend time together as a family. Any one of us would take this burden from
this family, if we could, but what they need is our support. Jacob’s road is sure to be difficult and his family wants to walk it with him.
As Jacob’s uncle, I thank you in advance for providing whatever support you can. Our goal is $50,000, which will cover living expenses and travel for the family for a few months. Any amount, though, would be greatly appreciated.
He is one of the strongest people I have even met for enduring what he has in his life.
