#JACKSONSTRONG - Help fight this brain tumor

Donation protected
Two years ago our son, Jackson, started having vision problems.  We began going the usual route: eye doctor, glasses, eye exercises.  Instead of improving, his eyesight actually continued to decline.

We continued to seek out specialists to see what was going on.  The issues with Jackson’s eyesight were affecting not only school but also normal play activities and we were determined to figure out what was happening and fix it.

Nobody seemed to have an answer beyond what we were already trying.  Sadly, one specialist even went so far as to say that Jackson’s issues were behavioral and not related to his eyes.  This just did not make sense and we kept pushing for answers.

We made the decision to make an appointment regardless of the cost because we needed to get help for our son.  The specialist did multiple tests and figured out the problem was not with Jackson’s eye but in his brain functioning.  His brain was not processing what he was seeing properly.  He advised us to start doing exercises and going to therapy as a first step.  We began immediately.

Then, a month into this therapy we noticed our son was not using his right hand or arm as much.  We noticed he was drooling and falling more often. We immediately took him to the eye therapist and explained what was going on.

They did some basic motor skills tests and recommended that we get in with our doctor immediately.  After meeting with our pediatrician, we went to the neurologist and were scheduled for an MRI.  This MRI changed the course of all of our lives.

Our son, Jackson, has a brain tumor growing in his brain stem and thalamus which is inoperable.  This brain tumor could be fatal if it does not stop growing. Currently, the tumor affects his vision and motor function, as it grows it will potentially block the fluid to his brain. This type of brain tumor is extremely rare.

There does not seem to be one simple answer to help our son.  Instead, we will be looking for cutting edge technologies and medical procedures to provide the miracle we are praying for.

Our son will turn 8 years old this month.  He is a funny, silly, loving, kind little boy.  Jackson lives every day to the fullest.  He loves to dance, be silly, play with legos, and have water gunfights.  Jackson is quite the monster truck enthusiast and would much rather be playing with his friends and family than anything else.

If for some reason we do not need all of the funds received we will donate this excess to other families in need as well as hospitals like Primary Children's Hospital in Salt Lake City Utah or those leading the fight against brain tumors like Jack’s.

Thank you for your love and support. We cannot express to you how very much your kindness is appreciated. We hope to save our son's life and to pass on new medical knowledge and help to other children and families.
