Women's soccer team for Pittsburgh
Steel City FC is a semi-professional women's soccer team in Pittsburgh associated with the WPSL. As an organization, we began our efforts in 2014 as the world was gearing up for the women’s world cup. The 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup not only generated excitement for soccer, but brought much deserved attention to women's soccer to both the national and local level.
At Steel City FC, we are firm believers that sport has the power to unite, inspire and empower women in a way little else does. Thus, we have made it our mission to provide female athletes in our area the opportunity to experience the positive benefits of athletics in a competitive and professional environment.
Prior to our start, as many as 45,000 youth in western PA were playing soccer yet there was no professional or semi-professional team for the youth to aspire. Following a successful first season in 2015 (7-2-1), our organization will continue to work to support local female athletes and to provide a platform in which they may serve as leaders in the community and role models to local youth.
We strongly believe that giving female athletes a voice and the opportunity to have a positive influence will greatly benefit our entire community.
