Izzy Harper's Emergency Surgery

Donation protected
This is Izzy Harper. Miss Izzy. Izzy B. Our Izzy girl. She is almost 14 months old. Izzy is an emotional support dog for Jaelyn Treece as well as an important member of our family. She is a extremely intuitive little girl. Izzy makes us smile even when we don't really want to. She sings, talks, gives high fives and a morning is not complete without a Good Morning Hug from Miss Izzy.

Izzy is trained to stay in the yard with the aid of an invisible fence. Sometimes her batteries in her collar die and she goes visiting. She never goes far and everyone around us knows Izzy. She is friendly and playful with other animals and like most dogs, will snack on cat food from time to time.  Here is when Izzy's adventure begins...

Izzy left the yard late Sunday evening and was not back by the time her surrogate momma had to leave for work at 3 am Monday Morning. She was found by her PaPa at 6 am Monday with a bullet wound to her chest. Izzy had found her way home and was laying under the porch. Mama came home from work and a frantic search for an animal hospital that was open began. One was found in Alma Michigan, about 30 minutes away. They said to bring her right in and they were waiting for her upon our arrival.

Izzy was rushed in and given oxygen. X-rays were taken and a treatment plan was put in place. They were going to do exploratory surgery to locate fragments of the bullet and if the main part of the bullet was easily accessible, they would remove that as well. The bullet had enetered her chest and was lodged somewhere around her right shoulder. They also had to find the blood vessel that was bleeding and stop it. They anticipated keeping her overnight.

We gave Izzy our kisses and promised to come back just as soon as we could. Our hearts were broken. Our Izzy girl had been shot by one of our neighbors for being in his yard and eating his cat food. The neighbor didn't call or come to say "Hey your dog is eating my cat food." He chose to shoot at her. He chose to shoot at a sweet little girl that he himself held as a 4 week old puppy. The anger set in.

The calming factor in all of this is that we had no idea exactly how strong Miss Izzy was. Not only did she make her way home after being shot, she made it through the surgery with no complications and let them know she was ready to go home...Izzy walked (slowly) out of the animal hospital Monday evening and is resting at home.

Her emergency surgery bill is $480 at State Road Animal Hospital in Alma, Michigan. Any money raised will be used to help pay off this bill. Any money raised over the $480 will be donated to the animal hospitals' memorial fund that assists familes in their time of need.

From our family to yours, our heartfelt thanks in advance to any help possible. Izzy is our babygirl. Our sunshine. She absolutely did not deserve to be shot...by someone she knew...over cat food. We would deeply appreciate your generosity.
