Melanie is studying in Israel!

Dear Family and Friends,
I have the incredible opportunity to spend Fall 2012 at the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev in Beer-Sheva, Israel. Here's why it's incredible:
The Ben-Gurion University is one of the top research universities in Israel, located in the arid, magnificent desert of the Negev. As a student, I will get to go into the University archives with my class and create an independent study through the University. These archives are the personal correspondences and memoirs of David Ben-Gurion, founder and first prime minister of modern Israel. As a student I will have the opportunity to create my own research project, which will mean working with more archives and/or working in the University library in some respect. I will work with highly esteemed professors in the areas of Israeli studies, peace and violence studies, history, ecology, and literature. AND I will be learning Hebrew AND traveling all over the country--to Jerusalem, to Bethlehem, through the desert, the Red Sea...all of it!
Since traveling is expensive, at the suggestion of my study abroad advisor I am creating a "help send me abroad" donation fund to cover some of my trip expenses.
I believe whole heartedly in the power of bridging cultural gaps through interaction, and I pray that this will be one of the most enriching, humbling, extraordinary experiences of my young life! Please help me meet my goal; share it with your friends, and in return I will document all that I see in the Middle East.
Thank you; God bless you!
