It’s more than just a dress.
A local senior has overcome many odds. Living in a less than ideal situation, supporting herself – she manages to do well in school, participate in the school play and works part time. She is saving up for a car and is responsible for all of life’s necessities on her own. As the Rolling Stones said, “You can’t always get what you want, but you get what you need”.
What if we could help her get what she wants – just this once?
What she really wants is to attend her senior prom. She wants to go shopping for a dress and participate in “prom weekend” like any other teen. But supporting herself on a part time job does not allow for such luxuries.
She told me that some days are hard. That getting up each morning and going to school – when there is no one to care if you didn’t, is a challenge. I know that having the prom to look forward to will be that boost she needs to keep going.
My goal is to raise $2,000 to send her to the prom. Of course she could get a hand-me-down dress…but she deserves to go to the prom in the dress that she went out and chose for herself. Money raised will go towards a reasonably priced dress, shoes, hair/nails, limo and prom weekend activities.
Any extra money will be put towards a car and car insurance so she can get to her new job, gas and basic life needs and hopefully a college fund. She has settled too often in her young life already – it’s time for her to make some good memories.
