It is Phil's time

If you met Phil Schrauben, you will remember he was the one who came into your life with a gregarious smile.  He may have sat with you in your time of stress, or sang with you and brought joy into your heart.  He would do anything for you, if you asked.  He was a friend for you in your time of need, and now Phil has a great need in his life.

Six years ago, Phil contracted Lyme disease without realizing what had just happened.  Lyme effects more people each year than Breast Cancer, or HIV/AIDS.  To understand this illness better, watch the video called: "Under our skin" or Under our skin 2: Emergence" on YouTube.

Symptoms experienced with Lyme disease include: Muscle aches, twitching, memory loss, brain fog, joint pain, sleep impairment, sometimes - numbness - these initial issues create guilt, regret, anxiety, mild depression & mood swings due to sleep depravation.  Phil experienced most of these symptoms and it had a negative affect on his employment. The disease treatments he is currently receiving from a specialist in Minnesota over the past 4 months changed his body to the point that he can actually sleep a whole night for the first time in 3 years.  He is regaining his confidence and beginning to remember details.  His passion for conversation with people is returning, and then this happened.

On June 7, 2018 he was on a roof, fixing a problem, and fell off.  He fractured his back.  Today, he is in a body brace.  His back specialist told him he was "very close to paralysis" because of his fall.  He is battling Lyme disease and now he is battling a broken back.
The psychological effects of this trauma in his life are real and it is time for us to communicate with him and remind him that at some point in his life, he was there for us - we now are there for him.

Phil is not at the place in his broken back recovery that he can contribute financially to the family budget.  The older children in the family have chosen to share from their income and the family is still $2,600 per month short of their expenses.  I am hoping that we can work as a team to contribute to that need.

I am Mike Jaarsma, a friend of Phil's.  I am hopeful that you will express to him personally how much his ministry has meant to you.
