Islamic Food Pantry based in Richmond, Virginia feeds the homeless and needy of all faith.
After the end of Ramadan 2018 CE 1439 AH, Islamic Society of Greater Richmond (ISGR) started the project by cooking for homeless and needy. Then distributing it around metro Richmond, Virginia.
We cook fresh lunch every week distribute lunch boxes with sometimes meat (Lamb or Goat) Chicken or Fish serve with vegetable rice side dishes (green beans, chili beans etc.) and dessert. After the last two thanksgiving distributed lunch boxes with Halal Turkey, Rice, Piece of Pie, and Green Beans.
Steps in feeding involves spicing and tenderizing the meat many days in advance, start cooking early in the morning, cooking rice just before delivery, pack the lunch boxes and then deliver. Important is to give fresh lunch.
Generally, the donors help us buy the whole lamb or goat, especially during Eid ul Adha. We get it processed and freeze them in bags.
We also distribute clothing, blankets & pillows, care packets (including soap, tooth brush & paste etc), with virus plans to add mask.
After President Day holiday, we distributed clothing to homeless and needy, in person with fried chicken and pizza. Many are on the street for long time, saw growing number of women who loved the food. Our weekly lunch delivery continues. We need support to organize clothing and then deliver them.

Our goal during January 2020 so far: $200
Working on a project to expand the pantry and the clothing drive (a separate project for last 22 years, details will follow) to a homeless shelter.
During the last days of December 2019, we received donations and pledge of the balance of our goal of November /December 2019.

Only two days and $80.00 left for 2019 Goal. Please donate, so we can get ready for 2020 goals.
A family gave us lamb meat recently. May Allah swt gives them reward and blessings. We put them in packets, and cooked portion of them last weekend. Distribute them with vegetable rice, salad, dessert, and water. (Check the Pics above, every week we will put new pics). In spite of the rain in Richmond Virginia area, all of the boxes were delivered to homeless and needy.

We cooked mildly spiced chicken last weekend served with vegetable rice with spice for flavor, chili beans, dessert, and water.
There were lot more homeless and needy in our regular spot. Sometimes we have to go to several areas to deliver the lunch boxes.

We cooked lamb curry last weekend served with vegetable rice, green beans, dessert. and water. Packed them in boxes and delivered to homeless and needy.
After our Sunday school, a 7 year student saw what we were doing take me aside and ask if he can give all his savings toward feeding the homeless and needy.
We didn't take his money, but are impress how generous he is. Mashallah.
Generally, the donors help us buy the whole lamb, we get it processed and freeze them in bags. We cooked everything fresh in the morning.

Last weekend, we cooked Turkey and distributed to homeless and needy.

In December 2019, we plan to prepare lunch boxes with sometimes meat (Lamb or Goat) Chicken or Fish serve with vegetable rice side dishes (green beans, chili beans etc.) and dessert.
We bought kitchen appliances to double our capacity, served homeless & needy during the month of November 2019, using the money raised in last Fund Raiser (November 2019). Jazakallah Kair for the support.

During April 2019 we distributed clothing to homeless and needy, in person with fried chicken and pizza.
As Ramadan 2019 was approaching, we organized clothing in our storage in the back and planned more food distributions before Iftar (opening the fast) during Ramadan.
During Ramadan 2019 and afterwards during May 2019 to June 2019, we distributed cold water bottles, watermelon, and other fruits.
Now during July 2019, we are organizing the clothing received and getting ready for Eid ul Adha. Plan to collect more meat for needy and homeless on the day of Eid ul Adha August 11 - 12 2019.
Received some funds directly (offline) during February 2019 to provide lunch one day in a week. On Monday February 18, 2019 (President Day), we visited the homeless and needy to distribute clothes, and gave away hot pizza to many. we plan to make another trip before the month of Ramadan (starts around May 6, 2019). Some are homeless for long time, appreciate the clothing and food.
Goals until month of Ramadan: need $250 for lunch one day in a week. Additional funds to organize clothes as we receive them and then distribute them.
Goals during the month of February 2019 (Funds Target $250): Need $250 for lunch one day in a week . Richmond Virginia have seen bitter cold in last few weeks. In this month, we also plan to distribute clothes for men, women, and children. Clothes been organize as we receive them.
Goal during the month of January 2019 (Funds Target $200): Need $200 for lunch one day in a week using volunteers . Richmond Virginia just had snow storm.
Goal during the month of December 2018 (Funds Target $250): Need $250 for lunch one day in a week .
Goal during the month of November 2018 (Funds Target $350): Need $250 for lunch one day in a week . Additional $100 for blankets or collect from the community, read the flyer.
Goals During the month of October 2018 (Funds Target $250): Organize the kitchen at Globalmart, store next to the Masjid, try different recipes of meat, chicken, and fish closer to American Cuisine.

1. Help us to buy grocery items including halal meat, chicken, and fish.
2. Need volunteers to prepare the meals, otherwise need funds to hire cook.
3. We organize one day in a week to distribute freshly cooked lunch to locations where homeless gathers around metro Richmond.
4. Future plan to distribute meals on more days and
5. Help us buy basic amenities such as toothpaste, soap etc. and bags to hold personal items for homeless.
Without support, we may not be able to expand or continue the project.
