Isia Slater Memorial Scholarship

Donation protected
I am starting this GoFundMe in the name of my son Isia Alexander Slater. The purpose is to provide athletic scholarships to those in need of help attending college.

While growing up Isia played in thousands of basketball games. From the time he was 7 years old all he wanted to do was play basketball. He played in many leagues and divisions in Arizona. He also traveled to different cities to play in tournaments. Isia was a star player at Betty Fairfax High School in Laveen, Arizona for all four years he attended. He began playing varsity in his Sophomore year and what a difference he made once he stepped on the court. He was affectionally called “King Uno” by the coaches, his teammates and the whole school. His goal was to attend a Division One College to play basketball.

Not only was Isia a star player for the team but he was a star off the court as well. He was a passionate player who also loved the guys on his team but his class mates as well. He would do unselfish things for any of his classmates at any time. Whether it was listening, helping out or offering to facetime with one friend when she had a bad case of anxiety and couldn’t sleep at night. They would facetime until she could fall asleep. He was kind, quiet but made a HUGE impact to the students and faculty of Betty Fairfax as well as the local basketball community. He was known throughout the valley. He was loved by his coaches, classmates, teammates and his family.

On October 14, 2016 Isia was suddenly and tragically taken in an automobile accident. It was the day before his 17th birthday. He and three friends were out shopping for homecoming when they were struck by a drunk driver. He and another passenger were killed in the accident and the other two severely injured. Isia had signed up to be an organ donor when he signed up for his driving permit. Through his sacrifice he was able to help several individuals by donating a part of himself to them.

My hope is to keep his memory alive by doing what he would have done if still here and that is to help someone in need. He was an unselfish person who always put his siblings and other’s before himself. He was committed to making a difference. Isia loved God and I know he’s in heaven watching down on me and his siblings. Please donate to this cause.
