Be Part of the Art with iSheep

Be part of the art!

Add your support and voice to the large-scale, big-fun, interactive art project, iSheep , that’s going to Burning Man—and beyond.

People are flocking to participate.

What’s the border between real life and robot? Why does it feel like that border is changing? And how much fun can you have with art?

We think art should ask big questions. And maybe answer some of them. That’s where the iSheep wander in.

We’ve earned a Burning Man honorarium art grant. And we’re working to realize this iSheep dream every day, all with volunteer labor. But we need your help for materials (some recycled), tools, and transportation.

No amount is too small

Talking, rolling, robot sheep. You heard right.

iSheep are a flock of 13 life-size, interactive, bumper sheep. On wheels. With flashy-blinky lights. And awesome, unique personalities.

iSheep roam the harshness of Black Rock City, Nevada in search of meaning and joy. All they want is to mingle with the city residents, ready and lit in their latest costumes. Talk to them. Touch them. Ride them. Push them around. But be careful: They will create havoc if you do something without their consent.

Don’t call them sheeple.

Each sheep has a different personality, voice and look. Explore what tickles them, what excites them, and what makes each one unique. All they ask in return is to be treated with respect and that you ask nicely first.

I love it! Can I have one? Please?

Yes! Sort of!

As an iSheep supporter at any level, you’ll be part of bringing this project to large and diverse audiences—we couldn’t do that on our own. We’ll update you with video, photos, and news before and after Burning Man, so you can share in the experience.

If you Adopt a Sheep, you become instrumental in creating it's appearance, personality and voice. We have an adoption application ready—but there are only 13 sheep in the flock, so get in touch soon: [email redacted]

And the iSheep will travel after Burning Man. Your support (or your sheep) may be part of exhibits and events in Washington, DC, and around the nation and the world. For instance, this summer, iSheep will be flocking to "Sound Scene," an exhibit at the Hirshhorn Museum of the Smithsonian Institution in DC.

I want to play with a sheep!

It takes a village to raise a sheep.  All of the labor—including seriously complicated technical, electronic, and fabrication work by our team’s skilled workers—is volunteer.

We need help shepherding and caring for the iSheep on the Playa, sourcing materials and arranging transport, taking care of volunteers—pretty much everything. Want to volunteer, too? Hit us up.

What is the money for?

Materials: Wood, body foam, resin, LED lights, sensors, processors, electronics, communications, batteries, chargers... We recycle and upcycle as much as possible.

Transportation: It’s 2,600 miles one-way from DC to Black Rock City, Nevada, the Burning Man site. It’s a long walk for a flock of sheep. Yes, they have wheels, but we're not going to make them do that on their own.

Thank Ewe!

Stay tuned for updates and check out the flocking great swag you’ll get for your support. Baaaaaaa-baaaaa for now!
