Ireland's DFMO Clinical Trial Fund
Donation protected
In 2017, Ireland (age 4) was diagnosed with a rare and highly aggressive form of pediatric brain cancer- ETMR. Following surgeries, many months of high-dose chemo and 30 treatments of proton beam radiation, Ireland was declared cancer-free. However, medically speaking, a relapse of this cancer is 100% fatal- within months. She recently qualified for eligibility in a phase-1 clinical trial for children affected by her cancer. The purpose of this trial is to use a drug called DFMO to greatly reduce the occurrence of relapse in these children, quite possibly securing them the future they deserve! Our hope is not only for this clinical trial to prevent relapse in Ireland, but to also potentially change the lives of any child diagnosed with ETMR and other pediatric cancers, in future! Participation in the study will require our family to travel from our home-state of Washington to Michigan (Helen Devos Children's Hospital), six times over the course of 2 years, to receive care. We humbly ask for your help, again; our insurance refuses to pay for ANY care recieved outside of Washington state-lines, leaving all expenses to paid out-of-pocket on a modest income. Thank you for reading and sharing our story!!!! We are grateful for and humbled by your support.
