Hi! I am Alisa Popova! And here's what's up..

I need your help to go to Hong Kong to study Tai Chi and Kung Fu in November!

What:
A trip to Hong Kong with Seattle Sil Lim to study with our teachers’ teacher.
A once in a lifetime opportunity, a trip that I will undertake no matter what debt I accrue in the process, because my intuition says I must go.

Here are my expenses:

Round-trip airfare - $1,200
Housing and food for 1.5 weeks - $420
Class fees - $380

TOTAL:  $2000

And here is why this is important to me:

I began training in Tai Chi and Kung Fu with Seattle Sil Lum  in January of 2019, just a fresh 7 months ago.

Tai Chi in particular has had the most palpable impact on me, as massage therapist, as dancer, as human. Since starting Tai Chi I've continued to uncover layer after layer of the concept of efficient body mechanics and am now more than ever thrilled at my future as a bodyworker, and confident in my ability to work into infinity and beyond without sacrificing my very own body.

I have also gained a deeper sense of energy flow and energy holding, both as a concept, and as an experience within. These subtler layers of awareness have allowed my healing work to be more effective, letting me to make truly impactful changes in my clients’ lives. This has also allowed me to sense more minute details within my constantly moving body, in particular while dancing.

As far as Kung Fu – that’s a mysterious love affair that germinated in my heart about three years ago from an unknown source. If I had to, I’d make a guess that the source is part Ip Man (a movie), part Kung Fu Panda (an animated film), and part “wildfire”. Kung Fu in particular has been a blessing by being a concrete way by which to channel and direct, chisel and explore this wildfire energy. “Wildfire” is a term I made up to describe a feeling inside me. It’s unclear whether it’s a physical sensation, a mental state, or something from the subtler realms which we lack language for. It is literally a feeling of wilderness and a feeling of a fire burning. It makes me want to be loud, to move quickly, and to rip apart physical matter.

Both Tai Chi and Kung Fu have positively affected me as dancer and mover. I am learning to be powerful with ease, to be grounded and light, all at once. It is an absolute delight to feel these changes in my body. Additionally I feel a greater sense of humility and joy. The exact source for these mental and emotional effects is a bit more difficult to explain, but they are certainly palpable. I suspect it may have something to do with the actual group of humans I have the privilege of interacting with, that being Seattle Sil Lum.

What a delight!

All of the above combine into an overall effect of greater joy, ease, and simplicity, which weave into my days seamlessly.

And, as we all know, that’s a sure way to affect the outer world positively – cleanse and refine your inner world!

Here's what I am giving you in return:

* “Ip Girl” is a play on words, a parody on Ip Man, the title of a movie based on a real life martial artist with the same name, also known as Yip Man. “Man” is actually part of his Chinese name, not an English word signifying a masculine human. Alisa has a hard time not making wordplay jokes. ;)
