Music Programs for Youth

Remember that one day when one person gave you an opportunity that changed your life? Remember that feeling where you felt you were invincible and found your purpose and passion? Think of the person that made the biggest difference in your life and helped you become the person you are today.
Internal Creations educational programming focuses on working with public schools that serve underfunded and underprivileged neighborhoods in New York City, which lack music programs to help bridge a connection between music and mental health. The majority of our students come from underprivileged backgrounds, in which they come from strict poverty- living in shelters, foster homes and/or in low-income housing and the schools they attend are ruled as Title-1 due to this background. In contrast, the consistent and positive experience of learning through music immersion is oftentimes the only reliable and nurturing experience that is available to these students to help develop their social/emotional skills. This project introduces students to musical literacy, musical theory, and music making by studying music and an instrument while simultaneously empowering a family/community (the students) to focus on a common goal (gaining a musical education and social emotional understanding). We are here to learn from each other and discover what is possible to achieve in our lives and careers while learning to play the classical guitar and performing beautiful music.
Who will benefit from your help?:
Your generous support will benefit our youth students of ages 11-18 who come from all backgrounds of Latino, Asian, European, Eastern, and African American descent in NYC. These students are a mix of fluent english speakers and many who speak a large blend of languages from Uzbek, Spanish, Mandarin and Arabic with little to no english. Your support will allow for these student programs to continue in the midst of music programs being cut from public schools due to federal funding and help young lives be exposed to a well-rounded education, which helps students find an identity in which they can thrive and be successful. This will allow us to continue helping students be accepted for a into 4 year accredited universities with help from our existing partners at SUNY Fredonia, Manhattan School of Music and more.
At Internal Creations, our mission is to develop leadership, self- sufficiency and life skills through learning the classical guitar in New York Cities underfunded and underprivileged schools and neighborhoods in all 5 boroughs. Internal Creations provides access to after school classical guitar programs in public schools and community centers for adolescent youth to keep them engaged in productivity during after school hours that develop self-sufficiency and independence to bolster positive mental health and social/emotional learning. Students will learn how to play the classical guitar as an ensemble and be required to perform for their community and complete a public service every year. Students will have access to classical guitars, guitar accessories, music and instruction during programming.
What the funds will be used for:
The funds will be used to help contribute towards supporting our newest programs at Media and Communications High School in Washington Heights and Multicultural High school in East New York and help sustaining. As mentioned before your contributions will allow for these programs to stay alive in the midst of music programs being cut from public schools and help decrease juvenile delinquency in the streets.
We promise:
1) To show successful student music performances every school year with outreach performances into the community. Our first outreach concert of the season begins next Monday October 29th.
2) Our students will be more involved in their community by our curriculum requirements of volunteering in their local soup kitchens, senior centers, community centers to help other organizations in their missions and develop the skill of giving, just as you have.
3) To provide tangible evidence of student retention of their learning through our evaluations and surveys.
4) To spread love, respect, and unity in our everyday lives and lead by example.
