Support us to nurture Ghanaian teenagers to become transformational change agents!
The Under the Baobab Tree programme (UBT) is a youth social entrepreneurship programme that nurtures, supports and partners with socially conscious 15 – 19 year olds, who aspire to be problem solvers and agents of transformational change and progress.
The programme equips youngsters to develop and implement solutions to challenges in their own communities using a social entrepreneurial approach. The initiative provides an annual residential training programme, a mentorship scheme, project development initiatives and other activities to build the capacities of these young change makers for them to realise their change making dreams. The challenges these young people try to address within their communities include but are not limited to; Sanitation, Literacy, Gender and Green Issues.
In the course of this process, UBT realized that although these young people are very talented, innovative, motivated and eager to create change in their communities, the nurturing process for effective results needs to go beyond the current UBT activities.
Hence the idea of UBT Clubs was borne to initiate and address on a regular basis, the absence of critical thinking, informed discussion and debates on issues affecting communities to propel grass root, conscious, sustainable, social action and to sharpen the response of these young people.
The clubs will be created through UBT partner schools, and other youth organisations, under the coordination, supervision, guidance and support of the UBT Admin Team. Resource personnel will be drawn in on a regular basis from both the corporate world and non-governmental organisations to give talks and share knowledge on related discussion topics and potential project areas. Each Club will be expected to carry out one sustainable development action a year.
