Intervención plexo braquial Ardean Shatwell

Hola, soy Ardean Shatwell, un chico de 27 años recién cumplidos.

El 6 de enero de 2017 yo me encontraba comiendo con mi familia en casa de mis tíos, como es habitual para la mayoría de los españoles. Después de comer y jugar a juegos de mesa con mi familia, me disponía a volver a mi casa y me subí a la moto.

On January 6, 2017 I was eating with my family at my aunt and uncle's house, as is usual for most Spaniards. After eating and playing board games with my family, I was getting ready to go back to home and I got on the bike.



12 días después desperté en el Hospital rodeado de mi familia y amigos. Había tenido un grave accidente de moto. Me indujeron un coma en el cual estuve durante 3 días en la UCI, poco a poco fui despertando pero no había recobrado el sentido debido diferentes traumatismos que me provocaron coágulos en el cráneo,  pulmón y riñón, además de dos costillas, la muñeca y un dedo de la mano rotos. Por suerte, y gracias al equipo médico, ahora estas lesiones solo son un recuerdo. 

Lo que todavía permanece es una lesión en el plexo braquial (estructura nerviosa localizada en la base del cuello y la fosa axila) que me impide tener movilidad en mi brazo derecho (soy diestro)

En el hospital, me recomendaron ir a visitar a dos especialistas que eran los únicos cirujanos capaces de poder intervenir esa zona e intentar recuperar la máxima movilidad posible. Éstos especialistas solamente realizan este tipo de intervención el ámbito privado. De los 5 nervios que salen de la médula hacia el brazo, tenía 3 desgarrados dentro de la médula (daños irreparables) y los 2 restantes, estaban seccionados fuera de la médula.

Tras realizarme distintas pruebas médicas, decidieron realizar una primera intervención el 20 de junio de 2017 en la cual me trasplantaron un nervio de un donante y repararían la zona del otro nervio afectado. Esta operación tuvo un coste muy elevado. Un importe del que ni mis padres ni yo disponíamos. Por lo que con la ayuda de mis padres y mi abuela conseguimos recopilar todo el dinero que hoy por hoy, les sigo devolviendo.

12 days later I woke up in the hospital surrounded by my family and friends. I had suffered a serious motorcycle accident. The doctors induced a coma in which I stayed for 3 days in the ICU, little by little I was waking up but I had not regained consciousness due to different injuries that caused clots in the skull, lung and kidney, as well as two ribs, the wrist and a Broken finger. Luckily, and thanks to the medical team, now these injuries are just a memory.

What still remains is a lesion in the brachial plexus (nerve structure located at the base of the neck and the pit armpit) that prevents me from having mobility in my right arm (I am right-handed)

At the hospital, I was recommended to visit two specialists that they were the only surgeons capable of being able to intervene in that area and try to recover the maximum possible mobility. These specialists only perform this type ofintervention in the private sphere. Of the 5 nerves that leave the medulla to the arm, I had 3 torn inside the marrow (irreparable damage) and the 2 remaining, were sectioned out of the medulla.

After performing various medical tests, they decided to perform a first intervention on 20 June 2017 in which I transplanted a nerve from a donor and repair the area of the other affected nerve. This operation had a very high cost. An amount that neither my parents nor I had. So with the help of my parents and my grandmother we managed to collect all the money that today, I keep returning.



Hoy en día mi recuperación ha sido constante gracias a la rehabilitación diaria y los especialistas han decidido realizar una segunda intervención en la cual quieren “empalmar” el nervio del pecho con el del brazo para que de más fuerza al codo y llegue más nervio a la muñeca.

En esta ocasión no disponemos de ningún recurso para recolectar ese dinero y por ello recurrimos a vosotros para recaudar el máximo dinero posible y evitar tener que endeudarnos todavía más.

Today my recovery has been constant thanks to the daily rehabilitation and specialists have decided to make a second intervention in the which want to "splice" the nerve of the chest with the one of the arm so that of more force to the elbow and more nerve arrives to the doll.

Now, we do not have any resource to collect that money and for that reason we resorted to you to collect the maximum possible money and avoid having to get into debt even more.
