Next World Champion of Speaking

In May of this year I was blessed to win first place in the District 84 Toastmasters International Speech Contest held in Orlando Florida. With this win, I am to travel to Vancouver Canada to compete for World Champion of Public Speaking. As there are amazing and extremely dynamic speakers in my Early Bird Toastmasters club as well as in our district, up to this point I was simply excited, amazed, and overwhelmed with gratitude at each accomplishing step. Now that this incredible opportunity of a lifetime to compete as World Champion of Public Speaking is before me, I mean to continue moving forward by speaking with passion, purpose, and sincerity. I have been told that it is difficult for a totally blind person to win such a competition because demonstration and eye contact is a big part. My thought concerning this statement is that no matter what physical challenge one does or does not have, most worthy goals are not easy to accomplish. Thus, it really isn’t about what you do not have when taking on a challenge, but more about what you are willing to give from what you do have to better accomplish that challenge or goal. It is also my understanding that the best way to surmount a difficulty is by getting on top of it. Consequently, I intend to stand atop that stage in Vancouver Canada and give the best two speeches of my life thus far!
I have also since learned that there have been other dynamic speakers who are physically blind that have earned the title of World Champion of Public Speaking.
EJ Burgan was the first woman to speak her way into becoming a World Champion in 1977, and in 1992, Dana LaMon earned the prestigious title of World Champion of Public Speaking with his speech “Take a Chance.” These are very extraordinary individuals, and I encourage you to look them up. It will be well worth your time.
In following, it is the goal of my team and I to make every effort to earn the honored title of 2017 World Champion of Public Speaking! To reach this worthy goal, I must first get there along with my wonderful team of coaches. I ask that you please help me to accomplish this necessary part of the journey, and I will do my part in speaking to the world with passion, positivity, encouragement, and triumph!
