Inspire You

‘Inspire You’, is the vision of David Barnett and Leslie Fairclough and is being set up to support children in the favela’s of South America and under privileged children in the UK.  

David and Leslie's collaboration came about after both experienced significant events involving their children.  Sadly Leslie's son, Jamel, died whilst as a passenger in a car  accident.  David's son Ty,  was so touched by the poverty experienced by the children whilst on a visit to a Braziliian favela that he asked him "What are we going to do to help these children dad?"

Poverty is the single greatest threat to the wellbeing of children and young people.

There are currently 3.7 million children living in poverty in the UK. That’s over a quarter of all children.
1.7 million of these children are living in severe poverty. 

In the UK, 63% of children living in poverty are in a family where someone works.

The statistics are shockingly higher in Brazil with 11.5 million children aged between 0 - 6  living in poverty in 2006.  This figure has steadily increased.

There were also 4.2 million children aged 15 – 17 living in poverty in the same year.

Poverty affects every area of a child's development - social, educational, psychological and personal.

Our need to give something back to children and young people has been inspired by our own children and  a group of us have been working hard over the past 18 months to make this vision a reality but need your help!

Based on the principals of the Five Ways to Wellbeing, 'Inspire You' programmes will encourage good citizenship among children and young people, by helping them to form good characters whilst mentoring them in habits of enterprise, self-reliance and lawfulness.  Our approach instils loyalty and thoughtfulness for others, teaching them services useful to the public along with vocations, professions and careers useful to themselves. We aim to achieve all this whilst promoting their physical and mental wellbeing.  

'Inspire You' will work in a manner which fully understands the child and young person and focus on the development of the individual via traditional and non-traditional educational programmes through a range of after school activities in the UK and Brazil.

We now need a minimum of £5000 to offically set up as a charity.  David Barnett, Darren Moore (both ex professional footballers) and myself (ex and current professional in absolutely nothing!) will be running 10K in the Great Birmingham Run on 1st May 2016 to help raise these funds and more.

Registering as a charity will enable us to go on the next stage of our journey and any funds raised over this amount will go towards providing the activities.  With your help, you can inspire us to 'Inspire You' to support the next generation of leaders, fathers, mothers, neighbours and citizens.
