Indigenous Peoples Gallery and Café will host events featuring Native artists, writers, musicians, lecturers, from all over the country and will contribute to the already existing art scene established here in Downtown Iowa City. Indigenous Poetry Nights, Live Art Paintings, Acoustic Performances, and Stand-Up Comedy, all by Native performers. Exhibitions by artists from all over the country, coming to Downtown Iowa City!! Something that is unique to this region and could become a true staple to Iowa City.
Indigenous Peoples Gallery and Café will educate and entertain the Iowa City Community through various art forms, featuring Native artists from all over the country; in particular the Native tribes that once inhabited Iowa contributing to the landscape. An emphasis on Woodland tribes, that mostly lived in Iowa will give our Gallery a unique aspect in the region.
The Gallery will also be supporting other Native-owned businesses and will be selling their products as well. We will also be bringing in the owners of some of these businesses to talk about their journey! We have an exciting list of events planned to showcase original art.
The amount I am seeking is for the monthly rent, until I get this funding that I'm seeking. Your support would help create this space for a growing Downtown Iowa City.
Indigenous Peoples Gallery and Cafe is a long sought goal, to be a central place for all that I do as an artist, advocate, and entrepreneur, as I have been working diligently for several years to make something like this happen. I have built a strong network of support here in the community and have been overwhelmed with the love and support from both UI community and the Iowa City community; contributing to the amazing, existing art scene.
This space would also inspire young Indigenous people to want to show their art. Young Indigenous people will also get to see other Indigenous artists, entrepreneurs, performers. This gallery would be a great way to encourage young people to look at UI to pursue art and history, and this Gallery would be a perfect outlet for the youth as well.
