A World Where You Can Be Anything, Be Kind. (Like Carrie)

At Target, we not only strive to help families discover the joy of everyday life, but we ensure our Target store families can live their best lives.

They say that, “Kindness is selfless giving with an open heart”.  For two team members at T-2383, the Omaha Target store, these words could not ring more true.

Meet Jeremy, a Softlines Team Member and Carrie, a Visual Merchandise Leader. These two share the same birthdate (September 19th), blood type (A+) , and in a few short days, a kidney (Carrie’s)!

When Jeremy learned that he had been approved to be added to the kidney/pancreas transplant list, he brought pamphlets to work and left them in the break room. Carrie started reading about the donation process and discovered she and Jeremy shared the same blood type. After further research and talking with her father (an obstetrician), Carrie made her first appointment to see if she was a potential match. After several tests, Carrie learned that she was.  Carrie made the decision to donate her kidney to Jeremy, because at Target, we aren’t just team members and colleagues, we are family.

The surgery is scheduled for January 30,2019.  This GoFundMe has been set up to cover Jeremy and Carrie’s loss of income while they both recover from transplant surgery.  The goal is to raise $5000 so that each of them can recover without financial worry.  We appreciate donations in any amount to help them during their healing process.

More about Jeremy:

Jeremy grew up in Omaha. He went to St. Bernard Grade School. He graduated from Northwest High in 1998. Jeremy joined the US Army right out of high school. He was stationed in Germany, Fort Meade-Maryland and Buckley AFB in Colorado. Jeremy was a Military Intelligence Analyst and was diagnosed with diabetes in 2002. He was medically discharged in 2002 as a Rank Specialist. Jeremy is a Nascar enthusiast. His favorite driver is Kyle Larson. Jeremy will drive down to the Kansas Speedway twice a year to watch races. In the fall he can be found cheering on the Indianapolis Colts. On Wednesdays he bowls in a league with friends. Jeremy has deteriorated rapidly this past year. Without this transplant he would be looking at starting dialysis soon.

More about Carrie:

Carrie also grew up in Omaha. she went to Holy Cross Grade School and graduated from Marian High School. Carrie went on to receive her Bachelors in Marketing at the University of NE, Lincoln. GO BIG RED! Carrie is married to Roger and is mom to Parker (10) and Palmer (8), and step-mom to Lukas (17) and Logan (15). Carrie and her family spend their down time hanging out as a family. Carrie is also an IPE Professional Bikini Competitor. Carrie loves to work out and leads a very healthy lifestyle. (Another reason she was a candidate to help Jeremy!) Carrie made this decision when she learned she and Jeremy shared the same blood type. She said that she would hope someone would do the same for her if she was in the same situation. She is excited and also honored that she is able to help Jeremy.

Thank you for helping us share their story of kindness.
