In Support of Kristy Charlie & her children

Early on the morning of Friday May 17, just before the start of a holiday weekend, a fast-spreading fire engulfed Kristy Charlie’s home, where she lived with her children. Kristy and her family were safely evacuated from the building, but they have lost their home and all their belongings.
Kristy is Indigenous Cultural Advisor for the Belfry Theatre and an active contributor to the health of her community, both in Victoria and on Tseycum First Nation in WSANEC territory. Anyone who knows Kristy, knows what a caring, service-minded person she is and how much she cares for her community.
With Kristy’s permission, we, her colleagues at the Belfry Theatre, are reaching out to ask you -- Kristy’s friends, relations, and community connections – to donate money that will help Kristy and her family rebuild after such a devastating event.
BC Housing is helping to provide a housing solution for Kristy and her kids. But Kristy will need to pay for replacements for everything from her personal identification to bedding, linens, clothing, and furniture. Kristy is a single parent. The cost of replacing material items is hard enough to bear, to say nothing of the time, energy and emotional labour Kristy must expend in the face of such loss.
Your donation will help Kristy and her family to get back on her feet. These are just some of the items your donation will contribute to:
· personal identification for Kristy and her kids (birth certificates, SIN cards, driver’s license, health cards, etc)
· clothing and shoes for Kristy and her children
· kitchen supplies, dining table & chairs
· furniture
· bed linens, sheets, comforters, blankets, pillows, and towels
· cell phone
· toiletries
· electronics and small appliances (toaster, coffeemaker, kettle, hairdryer)
· damage deposit on new apartment rental
