A diagnosis of Spindle Cell Carcinoma in May of 2018 is when Dwayne’s battle began. He underwent oral surgery on July 4, 2018. It was a successful procedure and the cancer that had grown in his jaw was removed.
He was advised to start Radiation to prevent the reoccurrence and started his radiation therapy 6 weeks post surgery. 4 days into his radiation therapy Dwayne discovered a lump on the left side of his neck. It was then discovered the cancer had come back and it had attacked his lymphatic system. This lump has wrapped itself around his carotid artery causing random seizure like episodes and multiple hospital visits over the last 30 days. He has been diagnosed with Stage 4 Lymphoma and Spindle Cell Carcinoma.
To all who know him, Dwayne, only age 41, - is a major pillar in the Calgary community. He is talented, approachable and an amazing father and role model. He’s always been more than willing to talk with and help others, but would never ask for help for himself. He’s a cherished brother, son, father, colleague and good friend to many. He’s also the life of the party. So as one might expect, he is coping with the news in his usual fashion – positive and appreciative of every moment he is here.
It is now our time to support him through this fight for his life.
Dwayne's mother Orientia Beckford has been made his beneficiary and will be in control of all funds associated to Dwayne's recovery and any other costs endured during this time.
