I'M STILL HERE Zine Release Event!

Donation protected
Hello!

I am a Queer survivor of sexual assault, and I'm asking for support to host a release event for I'M STILL HERE.

I'M STILL HERE is a zine dedicated to sharing the stories of Queer People of Color (POC) who have survived sexual violence. For the past month I have been accepting submissions from Queer POC survivors from all over the world, and I feel that it is imperative to provide a space to honor their work. This is art that not only needs to be REPRESENTED, but needs to be SUSTAINABLE! Therefore, we are asking for donations to fund the physical and emotional labor that is being poured into this project by Queer POC Survivors.

Just to start, as of April 4th:
9 promotion flyers have been released online, 100 color flyers have been printed and distributed, 1 Facebook event has been created, 4 survivors participated in 4 hours of filming for a video promo (which is soon to be released!),  5+ hours of video editing, 10+ hours of reading through submissions, and countless hours of outreach have all happened with absolutely no funding so far. In order to bring this event to life we will need all of the support we can get!

Why was this project started?
Queer POC face alarming rates of violence including sexual assault, yet their stories are hardly represented in media, the courtrooms and our communities. In addition, fear of being outed often forces queer survivors to remain silent about their experiences. As a result, many of us feel utterly alone when really there are Queer POC all over the world surviving violence every day. This project was started to create a brave space for survivors to be able to feel connected to each other.

Why are we raising money?
We are reaching out  because we are planning to host a zine release event at the end of April which is Sexual Assault Awareness Month (tentatively the 27th-30th). The purpose of the event would be to distribute FREE copies of I'M STILL HERE and to create a space where survivors can celebrate themselves and their stories. Our vision includes handing out free copies of the zine to everyone who attends,  featuring artists to perform/display live art, providing healing workshops, and vending art and herbal products made for survivors by survivors. As the majority of the submissions have been made by survivors from Los Angeles, we are planning to find a space that is accessible to folks from the area.

All funds raised would go towards printing copies of the zine, securing a space for the zine release event,  and providing a stipend for each featured artist and workshop facilitator. The zine and it's release event are not intended for profit!

Who is currently involved?
The event is being organized by Xica Necia in collaboration with the Pop Up Art Collective. Xica Necia is a Nica-Xapina, queer, femme poet and survivor of sexual assault. The Pop Up Art Collective was started in 2016 and hosts pop up art shows for local artists to be able to share their work.
You can find more information about both through IG:  @xica_necia and @popupartcollective

How can you be involved?
1. All donations of every amount are truly appreciated! <3
2. If you or anybody you know is able to provide a space for us to host the zine release event, please let us know as soon as possible!
3. Also, sharing the flyer and link, which you can find below, through your platforms would be so appreciated!  Representation matters and we hope to reach out to as many survivors as we can.
