I'm 1in5 Cross Canada Tour
A Journey for all Canadians...
Join one remarkable young man on an inspiring journey across Canada.
In celebration of what makes us Canadian - quiet strength, fierce community pride and passionate love for our national game.
In support of Canadian youth.
In service of a new conversation about sexual abuse and addiction.
To inspire new possibilities for our neighbours affected by mental illness.
It starts with ONE STEP.
On May 1, Paulie O’Byrne will set off from Victoria, B.C on a 9600km journey to St. John’s, Newfoundland, stickhandling a ball across this great nation to smash the stigma around mental illness, sexual abuse and addiction, and to raise funds to better support those affected by them.
Because Paulie is 1 in 5.
This is your invitation to join Paulie on his journey. A journey for all Canadians living with mental illness and those of us who care about them.
BECAUSE IT’S POSSIBLE
to smash the stigma.
BECAUSE IT’S POSSIBLE
to have a new conversation.
BECAUSE IT’S POSSIBLE
to change the game for those affected by mental illness.
BECAUSE IT’S POSSIBLE
The Ultimate Goal
A percentage of the funds (up to $500,000) will be donated to 10 established organizations across Canada who exemplify similar values, vision, and mission to I’m 1in5. Organizations will be chosen using a comprehensive selection process by our Board of Directors and key project partners. The remaining funds raised ($500,000+) will be put towards the development of a lakeside facility for healing and recovery in Ontario. This facility will be a place of hope, peace, and, of course, courage. The facility will offer programs and statistically proven recovery methods for occupants. We hope that the establishment of this facility will create a community without stigma - where healing and recovery is accepted by society. A property search and purchase by the board members of I’m 1in5 will commence following the tour. Our goal is to keep this facility operating and helping to change lives for many years to come.
About Paulie O'Byrne
Paulie O'Byrne was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia on an army base before relocating to Mount Forest, Ontario with his family. Paulie played competitive hockey for 14 years and attended Lambton College in Sarnia, Ontario for Sports and Recreation Administration. He became a Canadian Certified Hockey Coach at the age of 20. His first coaching opportunity out of college was in Delhi, Ontario in September 2006, where his life would be forever changed by clinical depression, anxiety, and PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) after years of drug abuse and multiple suicide attempts. His tenacity, courage, strength, and hope have empowered Paulie to embark on a lifelong journey of recovery and survival. In 2012, he got back on the ice, coaching a Junior B team in Calgary, Alberta to a City and League Championship. Paulie now speaks to groups and at conferences about his journey, the road to recovery, and living with mental illness. He has spoken to over 30,000 people across Canada, and has been featured in news, radio, and film across six continents.

2 Days in the books.
First off, a huge thank you to all of you who have donated to I'm 1in5 so far. Without your donation, this tour would not be possible.
On May 9th, Paulie embarked on the first Km of the tour leaving from the Mile 0 mark in Victoria, BC. In the first 2 days, Paulie has stick handled for over 40Km.
To keep up to date, please visit our Facebook page at http://facebook.com/im1in5.
The beginning of the tour made national news:
We need your help spreading the word, please help us get the word out that Paulie is doing this by sharing our website or GoFundMe page.
Tomorrow was the expected start date for the tour. Unfortunately, our RV is awaiting a parking brake cable in order for Paulie to take it on the road across Canada.
We have tentatively moved the start date back to May 9th.
This repair of the RV is the only thing holding us back at this point. As soon as we get word from the mechanic, we will post an update.
Yesterday, Sarah Smith released her song entitled "Angels & Anchors" co-written with Paulie O'Byrne. You can listen or purchase the song here: http://im1in5.bandcamp.com/track/angels-anchors
All proceeds from the song will go to support the I'm 1in5 cross Canada tour.
Thank you to everybody who has donated so far, you are helping us change lives.

Thank you to everybody who donated to help our Cross Canada Tour.
It has been a busy week. Yesterday, Paulie's story was published in newspapers across the country. Our thanks to Kate Dubinski from The London Free Press for taking the time to sit with Paulie and help tell his story.
The article is published here: http://www.lfpress.com/2015/04/05/paulie-obyrne-says-he-is-the-face-of-the-statistics
Last week Paulie also did radio interviews at AM980 & CJBK 1290AM London to help spread the word of the I'm 1in5 tour.
Even though we have raised over $2000, we are far off from our ultimate goal of 1 million dollars.
You can help us get there by spreading the word. If you could share our the link to our GoFundMe page ( http://gofund.me/im1in5) on your social media, it would help us immensely.
23 Days until May 1st!
