I’m in trouble - need your help

Hi guys - I did a really silly thing and am currently in a scary, scary position.
A few weeks ago, I was cycling home from work and caused an accident. It was totally my fault and from the second it happened I’ve tried to approach it with the sense of ‘I messed up and I’m sorry’ - but not being aware of the mess of different insurances I need here in Germany, it seems that all costs will ultimately fall on me. A man on a moped crashed into me, and while I emerged relatively unscathed (a messed up hand for the last few weeks), the other guy came off his moped, which was written off and which I have to replace, and broke his arm, for which he legally, and I’d say on a human level too, is entitled to compensation (Schmerzensgeld) from me.
The target I’ve put up is just a fraction of what I owe, but it was suggested to me that I appeal to my friends and even people I don’t know who might have some sympathy, for some help out of my predicament - the consequences of this stupid, stupid mistake.
I understand that some of you may think this ever-so-slightly ballsy, but I’m here with my tail between my legs and I would genuinely appreciate anything any of my friends (or anyone else for that matter) can donate to help me with my ever-increasing legal fees. (At this moment around €7-10,000, which I hadn’t expected, or I honestly wouldn’t be asking for your help).
Thanks for reading, and for anything you might be able to give. There will always be a sofa and beers in Berlin for anyone who can help me out of the consequences of this stupid mistake.
