Homecoming Celebration of Native Imagery at UIUC

Donation protected
ON OCTOBER 18-19, 2019, WE WILL MAKE OUR VOICES HEARD LOUD AND CLEAR.

This is to fund a celebration of Native imagery and culture at Homecoming weekend, October 18-19, 2019 at the University of Illinois.  It will also serve a a bold statement of protest and defiance against the University's ever-tightening noose around the necks of Natives and supporters who want nothing more than to see Native culture return and flourish at our beloved alma mater.

For too long, it has been the power over the people, and the few, vicious malcontents with the loudest voices have gotten their way with false narratives and weaponized words, terrorizing the public with their overt displays of hostility and unbridled hatred toward Natives and imagery that they deem "offensive" without credible research to back up their claims.

THIS WHOLESALE ERADICATION OF NATIVE AMERICAN CULTURE MUST STOP!

In May of 2019, it was decided, AGAINST the will of the majority of the people, AGAINST the will of the majority of the stakeholders, AGAINST the will of the majority of the alumni, AGAINST the will of the majority of the students, AGAINST the outcome of every official poll, AGAINST the majority of the Chancellor’s survey, that the University of Illinois would take the racially discriminatory stance of “moving forward” without any ties to Native imagery at the school, effectively banning an entire race for whom Memorial Stadium was LITERALLY BUILT.

This is not only a slap in the face to the first people who lived and died here, but a racist policy that creates a color barrier on the field that must now be broken.

This is a campaign to cover the travel expenses, lodging, meals and incidentals for a VERY large group of Native American performers, dancers, drummers, and those Natives who desperately want to come and stand in solidarity with local Natives and our culturally blended community, our Illini Nation, to protest against this recent dictator-like edict of the Chancellor, who feels it is within his power to eradicate the voices of those who hold Native imagery in their hearts and souls. By donating, you are ensuring that we have one clear, strong voice, backed by Natives from all over the nation, demanding the University drop their racist, exclusionary decisions and embrace the heritage and honor that has been the foundation of our school for over 100 years.

Any donations in excess will be used to fund our legal fight against the NCAA for their racist and exclusionary policies. NAGA has already spoken and have agreements with several lawyers, and will be proceeding with filing the lawsuit as soon as funds are retained.
