Hello- My name is Gaciel Perez Flores
I am an undocumented immigrant and I am 20 years old. My family came to Northfield when I was 2 years old. I grew up here, it is my home town and I want to come home. I was pulled over by the cops here in Northfield on June 22nd and- yeah I made some mistakes- they brought me to the Faribault jail and within hours ICE came to get me and now I am in the detention center in Sherburne County facing deportation. I am pretty devastated. I don’t know anyone in Mexico, my family and friends that I know and love are here.
I didn’t even know I was an illegal immigrant until I was 14 years old when my parents filed for a ‘Doca’ for me. This was shocking news for me. Once I got it, I started applying for jobs to get money for myself and help out my family. My mom has an illness and there are many medical bills. Throughout early high school I was torn between working full time or staying in school. I worked at McDonalds and Carbone’s and Taco Bell while trying to pursue my soccer dreams and professional dreams. I was good at soccer but realized that was going to take a lot of money too. I wanted to become a mechanical/electrical engineer. Torch helped me one summer go to a mechanical engineer camp in Grand Rapids and I knew that’s what I wanted- I still have that dream.
Then I had a conversation with a guy that challenged my views. He said a diploma and going to school are not going to help you pay the bills – “if you want to help out your family, only hard work and dedication to a job will pay the bills”. I left school in 11th grade- I let my ‘Doca’ slide and worked for my Uncle doing demolition work. And now here I am detained- scared I won’t have a chance at anything.
I am suffering the consequences and want to ask for your help. I have a lawyer-because of the help from my family and friends and the Northfield Community Action Center and I am so grateful. They were able to raise enough money so I have legal representation and my lawyer is helping me get my ‘Doca’ back. But he says that it will be a 10,000. bond to get me out of the detention center. That seems impossible. A friend suggested we set up a Go Fund Me account to share my story- so here it is- and here I am thinking and praying every day if I get a second chance to have my life back… what I will do to get my GED, to pursue my dreams as a mechanical or electrical engineer and to volunteer at the food shelf and be a productive citizen of Northfield . It’s not easy to ask- but if you all could give a little bit, I might have a chance…because I just want a shot at the American Dream. Thanks-- so much.

Pero él dice que será $10,000 fianza para sacarme del centro de detención. Eso parece imposible. Un amigo sugirió que configuráramos una cuenta de Go Fund Me para compartir mi historia.
