IAUPR Panama trip

Sometimes, being a student leader means fighting for the needs of your volunteers. This is exactly what has spurred into action a group of student leaders from IAUPR. Together, we represent our school’s Lions Club, NOSA and VOSH student chapters. With the help of several faculty members, we had planned a mission trip to Panama in the Spring. While our hosts have generously contributed to our arrival, we face several hurdles when it came to funding on our end. Our school, having suffered in the wake of Hurricane Maria last year, has offered us a limited amount of support. Unfortunately, this means that the burden of financing the trip has fallen on our students, many of whom are already dealing with extremely tight budgets and large student loan debt.

As students, many of us are on a fixed or limited income and the majority of that income comes from student loans. While our students are committed to realizing the trip, we are also working hard to help ensure that our students are not struggling themselves while looking to help others. To minimize the cost for our students, we are reaching out to for help to individuals and organizations alike.

Our goal is to raise $3,000 to cover travel and minor expenses for our students. While we do not expect a single entity to cover the costs, we are hoping that others will join us in our mission to bring the gift of sight to the people of Panama and peace of mind to our volunteers.
