Update from Rueben 13th. February:

Thank you everybody for helping me! I am doing so much better now and my Foster Mom reports that I am excellent. The vet’s expertise worked and I no longer have a problem with my ear. I don’t have any more pain, my head doesn’t throb and there’s no more ewwy gooey mess coming out either.

Thank you everyone for helping me along the way!   :-)

Hi I'm Rueben, and this is my story:

Well, I never had a name before, but Rueben sounds like a pretty good one. When my foster mom tries to take a picture of me I am undoubtedly serious looking except for my tongue sticking out. As soon as I see people reaching out to pet me out comes the tongue.  I am just so happy to be touched, brushed, and cuddled. One day I and quite a few other friendly boys showed up on the doorstep of a wonderful woman. She had a feeding station on her front porch and we all heard it was a pretty good place to be. The water dish was heated so it never froze in the cold winter weather. This is always a problem for an outdoor cat, to find fresh water. There’s always food out there and she even has a heated cat shelter. One day there was a funny looking wire box on the porch, and I was curious enough to go in after the nice warm cat food. But the door closed behind me and I got scared and I burst out again. But I turned around, couldn’t help myself, and went back in ( the humane trap), this time I was rescued. I was brought to a place called Pet Patrol where I was given a very large cage with a loft. I got lots of attention and lots of food and medical care too. While I was at the vets to be neutered they noticed that I had an ear infection, I was just rescued the day before, and so medication was given. After the 10 day course of that medication (it did nothing), I was taken back to the vet. I was given a different ear medication which helped a little bit and after the recheck the next week they finally were able to look into my ear. There was no more gunk coming out of it but they noticed a polyp. It’s like a wart and it was causing a constant infection in my ear. The only way to resolve it is to go in for surgery and remove the polyp. I am just a stray cat, who came into a really nice rescue that’s not funded in anyway other than through donations. The kitty doctor said my surgery would cost $736 which, at this time of year, after having a very expensive six weeks before the New Year began, Pet Patrol just can’t afford. They are continuing on with my ear medication in hopes they can finance my surgery sooner rather than later. I am listening out for you with my good ear to hear you’re calm voices and your heartbeat, in hopes that you will help me.
