Hello, I am a mum of 8-year-old Patrycja, who in October 2017 was diagnosed with Tourett's syndrome, obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic attacs, sleeping problems ... (Patrycja received the same diagnosis in Poland in July 2017). Since the underlying cause of the Tourett’s Syndrome is not known and the disease is incurable - the only thing you can do is administer drugs (usually psychotropic drugs) to try to alleviate the tics. Besides receiving melatonin (a medicine for sleep) Patrycja also gets Clonidine (a cardiac drug), which should help minimise the tics. Unfortunately, despite increasing the dose, last weeks have been very hard on both Patrycja and the rest of our family. The next step is the psychotropic drug - we want to do everything to avoid this. We have however found hope!! American scientists are becoming more and more vocal and are talking about the fact that the Tourett’s Syndrome could be an autoimmune disease caused by certain bacteria (streptococcus, staphylococci, etc.). The first step is to find the "hidden monster", because the bacteria can be hidden anywhere in the body - tonsils, throat, inner ear, the eye, the nose, in the navel ... literally anywhere. The mechanism behind this is quite simple: some children have a weakened immune system. Cells that are supposed to fight the bacteria get confused and as well as killing the infection - kill the healthy cells of Patrycja’s body. In the case of PANDAS (paediatric autoimmune neuropsychiatric disorders associated with streptococcal infection), they are specific brain cells located in the basal ganglia.This area of brain is responsible for motor skills, emotions, behaviors (like tics, behavioral disorders etc.). Some of the proteins present on the surface of the Streptococcus bacteria are very similar to human proteins. This is the way this particular bacteria try to mimic their host to become invisible. That is one of the reasons Streptococcus infection can trigger autoimmune diseases. A great change for my daughter would be to go to Poland and run thorough microbiological smear screening and other necessary tests followed by consultations with Professor Anna Pituchecki. She has cured more than one child with a Tourette’s Syndrome diagnosis - by administering an antibiotic that was aimed specifically at the bacteria found in their bodies. The therapy might last months, but I see the positive effects it brings to other children. I would not forgive myself if we did not try, especially that damaged brain cells can not be rebuilt. Time is chasing us, and we are limited by money. During the last six months, we went to Poland tice to diagnose my son (unfortunately NHS refused to help in a simple diagnosis). After the last hospitalization we have the answear: diabetes. We are waiting for the rest of the results. Unfortunately, we spent all our savings to receive a correct simple diagnosis for my son. It could be months before we manage to save money for Patrycja’s medical needs and in her case every week could make a huge difference for her future. I have never asked for help for myself, I always tried to give the best from myself to the people in need ... Now the situation has turned around and I ask for help, every minute counts ... (Taka sama diagnoze Patrycja otrzymala w Polsce w lipcu 2017 roku). Poniewaz na dzien dzisiejszy nikt nie wie, co jest powodem powstania Zespolu Touretta a choroba jest nieuleczalna- jedyne co mozna zrobic to podawac leki (zazwyczaj z grupy lekow psychotropowych), aby sprobowac wyciszyc tiki. Patrycja oprocz melatoniny(leku na sen) dostaje jeszcze Clonidine (lek z grupy lekow kardiologicznych), ktory ma pomoc na tiki... Niestety mimo zwiekszania dawki ostatnie tygodnie sa dla nas i dla Patrycji dosyc ciezkie... Kolejny krok to lek z grupy psychotropow- na to się nie godzimy.
Pojawila sie dla nas nadzieja!!Amerykanscy naukowcy coraz głosniej i coraz smielej mowia o tym, ze Zespol Touretta jest choroba autoimmunologiczna, wywolana przez bakterie (paciorkowce, gronkowce, itd). Pierwszym krokiem jest znalezienie „dziada”, gdyz bakterie moga siedziec na migdalkach, w gardle, w uchu, w oku, w nosie, w pepku... Doslownie wszedzie.
A to jest juz prosty mechanizm: niektore dzieci maja niepoprawnie działajacy uklad immunologiczny. Przeciwciala skierowane do walki z bakteria owszem atakuja ja, przy okazji "myla sie” i rozpoznaja komorki wlasnego organizmu jako wroga. W przypadku Pandas sa to komorki mozgu a konkretnie czesci zwanej nadal ganglia. Ta czesc jest odpowiedzialna za motoryke, emocje , zachowania. Stad tiki, natrectwa, zaburzenia behawioralne, leki, itd.
Akurat paciorkowiec jest zbudowany z podobnych bialek jak bialka ludzkie dlatego tak czesto przyczyna jest własnie paciorkowiec. To jest mechanizm mimikry - czyli niejako upodabnia się do otoczenia.
W innych chorobach autoimmunologicznych dochodzi do takiej samej "pomylki" tylko przeciwciala atakuja inne narzady- tarczyce, stawy, serce, skore, itp.
Szansa dla mojej corki jest wyjazd do Polski, zrobienie Jej wszystkich niezbednych wymazow i badan i udanie się na konsultacje do Profesor Anny Pituch- ktora wyleczyla calowicie z tikow nie jedno dziecko (ktore tak jak Patrycja mialo diagnoze Zespolu Touretta), podajac antybiotyk celowany w bakterie. Nie wybaczylabym sobie, gdybysmy nie sprobowali, zwlaszcza, ze zniszczonych komorek mozgowych nie da się odbudowac Goni nas czas, a ograniczaja nas pieniadze
W ciagu ostatniego pol roku dwa razy bylam w Polsce w celu diagnozowania syna (na ktorego NHS wystawil się tylkiem). Po ostatniej hospitalizacji mamy diagnoze: cukrzyca. Na reszte wynikow czekamy.
Niestety na wyjazdy z synem do Polski i Jego diagnostyke wydalismy wszystkie oszczednosci. Minie kilkanascie dlugich miesiecy zanim uda nam się uzbierac pieniazki na wyjazd do Polski z Patrycja, a w Jej przypadku kazdy tydzien robi roznice...
Nigdy nie prosilam o pomoc dla siebie, zawsze staralam sie sama dac innym z siebie wszystko... Teraz sytuacja się odwrocila i to ja prosze o pomoc, liczy się kazda najmniejsza wplata... Nie wybacze sobie nigdy, jesli nie sprobuje teraz zawalczyc o zdrowie mojej kochanej corki.
