Saving Teddy's Life

My Name is Jeffrey Hopkins. My Girlfriend Trish of 15 years adopted Teddy when he was a little tiny puppy. He has been sooo wonderful. Neither Trish or I have any children which make our 2 pets, Teddy and Maggie our most terrific cat family. We love them both so much. Maggie was born in our house 2 ½ years ago. She and Teddy hit it off fine. (Though it was a little of an adjustment for Teddy.)
On a very upsetting note, Teddy (only 8 years old) has a very serious blood condition. Coincidentally at the same time, he was just diagnosed with Lyme disease and this may be but most likely is not related to the Lymes.
It's very serious, his platelet count is 0!!! It's supposed to be around 170,000 or in that area. If you know anything about platelets, they are the clotting factor in your blood that enables a wound to heal by clotting the blood which prevents more bleeding.
He has just started eating again, he had to be given medication to make him hungry, thank God it worked, he's only 12 pounds. He's been very lethargic and weak. His medication had to be administered intravenously because I could not get him to take his meds without forcing him too hard. I have to be sure not to accidentally cause any injury no matter how small because he could bleed to death.
The vet's office, Townline Veterinary Group in Hauppauge, NY told us he needs blood transfusions, he may need several. This will not replace the platelets in his blood but will replace the red blood cells which he needs to produce the platelets. His immune system is attacking his platelets. This can be caused by something called thrombocytopenia. The cost of one blood transfusion is about $1000 each. They also want to keep him there for several days after the transfusion for the intravenous medication he needs which will cost about $1000 as well. The transfusion procedures will be at the Long Island Veterinary Medical Center in West Islip, NY.
I'm estimating the cost's to be around $7,500 and what I’m hoping to raise is $4500.

Teddy means the world to Trish and me. He is really like the child we never had. It's hard to imagine that last week he was running around playing with his toys, attacking his stuffed animals, then the 180-degree change only a few days later.
If you can find it in your hearts to donate to help save this beautiful little guy I would be so touched and relieved at the same time. I can't tell you how we need the funds now.
The Doctors are telling us that there is no time to waste, Teddy needed the 1st transfusion immediately and that has been completed. Tomorrow we have him tested for red blood cell retention and platelet count.
