Jared's Medical Expenses

Donation protected

At the end of February, our lives changed when Jared was having excruciating pain in his abdomen. After two trips to the hospital and 3 days of waiting, the doctor's decided he needed emergency surgery, there was no other option. He had diverticulitis in his colon that grew so big, it caused his bowel to be enlarged to a massive 15cm. He had began to perforate, and had he not had the surgery when he did,  his colon would have burst, which is fatal. They had to remove this piece of his colon and create a stoma for him.

Jared and I married on July 5th 2014. I am currently 22 and Jared is 33. Jared is an American citizen, so since that day we have been fighting through the loads of red tape to apply for him to be a Canadian permanent resident. Unfortunately, in that processing time between applying and being accepted, he is not covered by OHIP and we have no other means of insurance. Therefore we are paying for 2 weeks hospital stay, several doctor fees including the biggest one, the fee for the surgery, and loss of my wages as I stay in the hospital with him.

Update: After a few weeks of being home and recovering from his surgery, things were going smoothly and Jared was slowly healing. However, recently he was experiencing difficulty breathing and tightness in the chest. When we brought him to Stevenson Hospital in Alliston, they determined by a CT scan that he had a blood clot in his lung, that had travelled from his leg, a complication from the surgery. Because his oxygen levels were dangerously low, he was sedated and put on a respirator. He needed to be in ICU, so they arranged for an ambulance to transport him to RVH in Barrie. I was following the ambulance in my car. About halfway there, Jared's heart stopped and he went into cardiac arrest for 7 minutes. The EMTs managed to resuscitate him and we were escorted by a police car to the hospital. Once there, he coded another 4 times, as the medical team used CPR to continue the pumping of his heart for about 45 minutes. After an absolutely traumatizing hour and a half, they finally got his heart to maintain a pulse.

Jared is still being looked after in the ICU at RVH, while he is in a coma. Thankfully his brain scan came back showing normal brain activity, and is displaying the activity of someone who is sleeping. We are very very hopeful that he comes out of this with minimal brain damage. Regardless, he is going to have months and months of emerging from his coma, followed by rehabilitation.

The hospital stay and surgery  at South Lake in Newmarket came out be approximately $25,000. Now we are continuing to wrack up another massive bill at RVH. I plead with you all to please help us, give what you can and if you can't give, please share this post so others may have the opportunity. Thank you for reading and please keep my husband and I and our family in your thoughts. Thank you
