Hello everyone! My name is Zaron Hill and one of my many goals and aspirations in life is to open a boxing gym/fitness center that focuses on not just physical development but personal development/growth as well. I grew up in Hutchinson, KS and spent the majority of my life here and see firsthand the needs that could be met with the introduction of a facility like this. My goal in opening this facility in Hutchinson is not just to be a business owner but to provide the community with a resource.
As I said, I’m from Hutchinson and I grew up in an unconventional family, to say the least. My father was a pimp, drug abuser, etc. and my mother was a prostitute and abused drugs as well. My siblings and I were taken from our home as teenagers due to abuse and neglect. As a lot of you may know, it is difficult to talk about those things openly and it is much easier to just keep those struggles concealed than to deal with them. However, for me, I was fortunate to have been introduced to boxing at a young age. I was raised in a very strict household with discipline and abuse, but I knew from a young age the difference between the two. I used my training and disciplines as a way to navigate through life. Boxing taught me, amongst other things, the value of respecting your opponent, but not letting your guard down around him. I implemented these tactics in my personal life as well, growing up and dealing with different types of people. My ability to cope with my past, using boxing as an outlet, gave me focus and fueled my desire to help others that may be struggling, which I have focused my professional life on for many years, working as a direct care staff in a child and teen psychiatric facility, an implementer/teacher in a school for developmentally challenged children and adults, as a Program Technician/Counselor in a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center, and presently as a Juvenile Corrections Officer here in Hutchinson. I definitely do not have all the answers to all life’s problems, but I do my best to use what I have to make it better, as much as I can.
My vision for this facility is not only to encourage a healthy lifestyle but also to provide a safe outlet for teens and adults to come and be around others that may be struggling and to work alongside them to overcome their issues. In addition to boxing classes and lessons, we would implement life-skills trainings, goal-setting, nutrition plans, etc., to promote a holistic approach to wellness. We would look to add other programs such as yoga or other skill sets as well. We want to provide a place for people to come and hang out that will keep them off the streets, out of trouble, and help them to realize their potential. Any donations of any amount are more that appreciated, to help this become a reality. Thanks!
