Wathey Family Irma Relief for SXM
Sint Maarten is COMPLETELY DEVASTATED.
Many of you know how passionate I am about my home island of Sint Maarten. On September 10, I was even planning on moving home to Sint Maarten to help my family start a new business.
On September 6, Sint Maarten was hit by Hurricane Irma - the strongest hurricane ever recorded in the Atlantic. There was no way my family or the island could have ever predicted or prepared for the extent of the storm. Approxiately 95% of the island is unihabitable.
In the matter of a few hours, family and friends lost everything - their homes, their belongings, their businesses, their sources of income. Many are without the basic life necessities - water, food, medicine, clothes or basic shelter.
Despite all this, my family is staying on the island and is eager to help rebuild Sint Maarten!
Many of you have generously reached out to inquire about how best to assist my family during this desperate time. A donation of any amount would be greatly appreciated and will be put towards purchasing basic life sustaining necessities for my immediate and extended family.
Any additional money in this fund will go towards helping other Sint Maarteners get back on their feet, including the many Sint Maarteners that my family employs and considers family.
Over $2000 of emergency supplies have already been sent to my family via a neighbouring island and we're hoping to send more relief as soon as direct lines of shipping reopen to the island.
Your money will be spent directly on supplies such as:
- Baby formula, diapers and other baby supplies
- Feminine supplies, toothpaste, deodorant and other hygeiene essentials
- Drinking water or water purification kits
- First aid supplies and emergency kits
- Work gloves, duct tape and tarps for preliminary rebuilding efforts
- Clothes, shoes
- Diesel, fuel
- Dog/pet food
Thank you for keeping us in your thoughts and for any help you are able to provide,
Cameron and Shawn Wathey
None of this would be possible without the support of our loving family and friends around the world. Please know that we are extremely humbled and grateful for each and every one of you.
My family continues to be strong and is focused on providing water/food to the people of St Maarten and getting order back to the island.
Food and water, however, remain limited until the SXM airport opens and we can send more aid.
Please continue to keep SXM in your thoughts and prayers.
He is putting the people of St Maarten before himself!
