The Huntsville Amateur Radio Club (HARC) has a 70-year history of Community Service, Emergency Service, and Education through Amateur Radio in Northeast Alabama.
The Club currently has about 350 members and is one of the largest amateur radio Clubs in the USA. The Club's members do a tremendous amount of volunteer work in the Northeast Alabama area supporting schools, running clubs, cycling clubs and events like the Huntsville Hamfest.
In June of 2015 a dispute arose between the elected club officers and a group of former officers and members. These former officers and members attempted to dissolve the existing corporation and re-form it under the same name. As a result, the status of the original club as a continuing entity became a legal issue.
The club was preparing for its annual Field Day which was only 11 days away. Suddenly, the existence of the club was in jeopardy. It had no equipment, money or a way to put on Field Day. With the help of borrowed equipment and the efforts of numerous volunteers, the Club came together and was able to conduct the event.
Ultimately the Club was forced to undertake a legal action to regain the ownership of the Company and its equipment. After three years of court actions the issues of the lawsuit of been resolved in our favor.
Thankfully, a single Member Benefactor stepped forward and agreed to pay the legal fees and expenses necessary to finance the legal action. As this process has moved along, a financial need has arisen for him to try and recoup as much of the money he has spent on the Club's behalf as possible.
This GoFundMe Account has been set up to collect funds to reimburse that one Member Benefactor for the money he has spent on legal fees to Save the Huntsville Amateur Radio Club. In the event any funds raised are left over after full reimbursements have been made they will be used for other Huntsville Amateur Radio Club projects and outreach to the community.
