Solo & Hunter - Dachshunds w/ IVDD

Donation protected
These past few days have been the most difficult yet, as a pet owner. If you have spent any amount of time with us, you know that our “wiener pack” is the center of our world. Sadly, our dog Hunter was diagnosed with Intervertebral Disk Disease (IVDD) and currently has paralysis is his hind legs. IVDD is a result of a bulging or ruptured disk that is pinching the spinal cord.

After running him to the vet on Monday morning, he was immediately diagnosed and treated with pain medication and anti inflammatory meds. The good news is that IVDD is not a death sentence. The bad news is that all roads to healing are expensive. The first recommendation is to get a CT Scan done to determine the degree of damage. The nearest facility that offers this imaging is Moncton, at a cost of $1500. The second recommendation (depending on the results of the CT Scan) would be surgery. The cost would range from $3500-4000. This does not include the cost of rehab, conservative care or medication.

Unfortunately, the option of surgery for Hunter is not currently in our budget. We have however started him on a conservative care plan in hopes that it will be successful and help him regain the use of his back legs. This includes medication control, laser treatments and possibly acupuncture. All of which come at their own cost. He is also on “house arrest” in his kennel for at least 4 weeks.

Creating a GoFundMe account took a lot of pride swallowing. Of course a back injury is one of the most costly and we just want to do whatever we can to get our boy feeling better.
