All proceeds from the event go directly to Puerto Rico.
It has been one month since Hurricane Maria struck the U.S. Territory of Puerto Rico. The situation has been described by some news outlets as "survival mode" with more than 2.5 million residents still without electricity, one in three residents without access to clean drinking water and more than ten collapsed bridges.
With Dell'Arte Alumni currently living in Puerto Rico, we are receiving first-hand information on the devastation caused by this hurricane and the tangible needs of the communities there.
At Dell'Arte we pride ourselves in taking care of our famiglia and with the help of local community leaders and our alumni in Puerto Rico, we hope to raise funds to buy supplies that are of immediate use to the communities in Puerto Rico.
Founded in 2013, Mano a Mano PR is a non-profit that has set up community bases in various parts of Puerto Rico and is currently on the ground, getting aid to those who need it the most. Dell’Arte is honoured to be assisting in their relief efforts.
She says "I go to different towns on my own or with any friends who want to join me to bring food, medicines, water, sandwiches, yoghurt, fruit and all things that I have sent to you on the list. But we try to reach other people because it is hard to keep helping with our own money and with our necessities. This week was Utuado. One of the bridges broke and the only way to help them was by the cables or if the river is not big, by crossing with a homemade ladder which only 3 of us were able to use. That was on Sunday. After the massive rains of yesterday and today, it got worse."
Our hope with "Humboldt Can Help" is to raise enough money to aid the purchase of the supplies that are on Andrea's list, supplies that are in immediate need to various communities in Puerto Rico.
