Humanitarian Aid for Refugee Families

Avery and I are spending Spring Break in McAllen, Texas. We came to help at the Catholic Respite Center to serve asylum seeking families who are trying to make their way to their sponsors in the United States. The Center is housed in an old nursing home that has been made into a place for families to receive food, clothing, medical care and a place to rest before departing on long bus rides all over the country to sponsor families. Today people in our group made sandwiches and snacks, sorted and distributed clothing, cleaned bathrooms, played with children, and helped medical staff care for sick families. The needs are many and at each turn we found ways that others could help. The vans used to transport families to the bus stations needed gas, bathrooms needed cleaning supplies, women needed undergarments, children needed socks, babies needed soy formula, and the list goes on and on. We made runs today to Walmart and Target to pick up supplies but so much more is needed. If you want to help please consider donating so we can provide for the basic needs of so many people fleeing from Central America.
