Human Solidarity: City Plaza

Donation protected
A handful of friends know that I am currently living at the City Plaza Refugee 'Hotel' in Athens, Greece where an old, abandoned hotel houses about 400 refugees from various countries, about half of which are children. When I was in Greece two weeks ago, I was robbed, and even before I was robbed, we visited the City Plaza and I decided to stay here my last month and do whatever little I can to help rather than to travel Europe and waste money that could be put to better uses. There are volunteers here from all over the world, speaking an array of languages, and contributing in various ways, some of which have been here for 1+ years, all of us are unpaid of course. We live in the same area as our refugee family, we eat the same food as our refugee family, we bathe in the same cold water as our refugee family, and we clean the home that we all share together. I've been teaching English to two groups of women and working with the kids on different activities. These people are in limbo, living day by day, not knowing what tomorrow is like. We are in risk of not having enough food, or baby supplies, or shoes for the kids. We are in danger of eviction by the hotel owner who is listed as one of the richest people in Greece, and let me remind you that this hotel had been closed for 7 years (closing for various reasons including the owner not paying her workers) before it was opened to house families that were living on the streets. I need you all to care, to be angry, to try to find a way to help these at risk families and people. We are all human and what I've seen and heard while here, has left me shocked and heartbroken, even as a refugee myself. And while there is a large scale crowd funding site for this, I believe that anyone that has a personal relationship to a project is more likely to donate. This godundme is my contribution to City Plaza, and I want you all to find some generosity in your hearts to donate a few dollars to go towards the basic needs of my friends here, to purchase food, repair the hot water boilers, and to buy some toys for the kids. I will hand over every penny I collect to the economics person for the hotel. So skip fast food or Starbucks for a day and donate to this project, to put a smile on a kid's face, or to buy food and basic necessities for the 400 people here.
