Funds for walking aid device

Donation protected
My name is Lee Hobbs and I am trying to raise funds for a walking aid device for my sister in law, who suffered a stroke last year whilst giving birth.  This is her story……….

On January 11, last year, Kasia went into hospital, to have a routine induction and give birth to her first child. In the early hours of January 12, Kasia suffered a massive bleed (Haemorrhagic Stroke) on the right side of her brain. She was transferred immediately to a specialist neurological hospital, where she had an Emergency Caesarean Section and life-saving Brain Surgery.

The Stroke has left the devastating effects of partial paralysis in her left arm and leg and weakness in the left side of her face. At only 36 years of age, I'm sure you can appreciate how crushing this is for her. The severe aftermath of this stroke has left Kasia unable to go out on walks with her child, despite having treatment for the past year. The main reason for her inability to walk is that she still has to wear a rigid ankle splint to allow her to walk. The splint causes her a lot of pain and prevents her from bending her knee, meaning that all the movement has to come from her hip. The knock-on effect of this is that she can only walk very short distances before pain and fatigue of her hip muscles brings her to a standstill.

Recently I saw a revolutionary new brace called the C-brace on the news which will allow Kasia to walk further and reduce the pain caused during ambulation. This is a very exciting product, as eventually this may retrain her brain and allow her to walk unaided.

I am sure that I do not need to stress how important this would be to Kasia and her family but as great as it sounds, it is unaffordable to them. Kasia cannot have any more children as the risk of her having another stroke is too high. Needless to say, this is her only chance of enjoying her baby and the C-brace could help her to have more independence and enjoy the “simple things” in life, such as going for a walk with her daughter and husband or a trip to the seaside. They have always enjoyed these simple things which have now become impossible, as Kasia needs to be pushed in a wheelchair and their daughter needs pushing in a pram. My brother, try as he might, just can’t do this by himself. The C-brace would change this as Kasia could walk and they could push their daughter and enjoy something of a “normal life”. They have had a long year of suffering and being apart and if I succeed in raising the funds for the C-brace, I know it would grant Kasia the freedom that she so desires. This is why I am asking you to help.

My goal is to raise £60,000 (approx. $92,000) to pay for the C-brace. This was the price quoted to me by the UK distributor. I understand this is a significant amount of money but I feel with the generosity of the people that visit the GO FUND ME website; we can achieve this goal and give Kasia back her freedom.

Please help me reach this target with your donations/sponsorship and rest assured that your money will change Kasia’s life.
