House of Kava Employees Need Help

The staff of House of Kava in Bushwick need your help to keep them going. There have been reports of disturbing, abusive, and illegal behavior from the owner that have lead the staff to fear going in to work. We all have the right to work and the right to feel safe at work. Thus, they have organized and presented a list of demands to make the workplace less hostile and more just. Staff have been fired for this effort, the demands were not met by the deadline, and the workers are now on strike.

The regular customers and surrounding community members fully support their right to unionize and are currently boycotting the establishment during the strike. This is difficult as H.o.K is a sanctuary to so many but it would be impossible to support an establishment that does not recognize its workers' rights and safety!

We are trying to raise money to help offset the financial burden for those employees who have been fired or who are having their pay withheld as a result of their unionization efforts. Please donate whatever you can towards helping them stay afloat during this traumatic and stressful time. Even the smallest amount helps.

I am Kelly, a H.o.K regular for several months now. I currently reside in Bushwick and have set up this campaign in order to raise funds for the Union members. These funds will go directly to them once withdrawn by the beneficiary, Ben, who is another regular who is directly involved with helping the union organize and survive during this very difficult time. The funds will be used to help them pay their rent, bills and eat. Each Union member is given an equal share and no non-union members are benefitting from these funds at all.
