We're opening a Hostel in Carrabassett Valley, at the base of Sugarloaf! Come adventure with us, all year-round.

Our Story & Vision
On our first date in 2012, having just returned from Europe, Justin told me, someday, he was going to open a hostel.

“...a what?”

In that moment Justin made it his mission to show me just what I was missing out on and we began our journey to explore as many hostels as we could, all the while jotting down notes on how we could bring this affordable and social hospitality model to Maine.

But after years of business planning we still needed that one most important piece to bring this dream to life: the perfect space & location.

Late this fall we found it when we came across a Bed & Breakfast for sale in Carrabassett Valley, Maine; an area that holds special significance to Melanie as a lifelong Sugarloafer, graduate of UMaine Farmington, and former ski instructor & mountain employee.

The location of Hostel of Maine couldn’t be more perfect. And we're not the only ones who think so; previous B&B guests are consistently happy with the coziness of the building and the location.

H.O.ME is situated amongst 77+ miles of year round world class mountain biking trails, too many miles of hiking trails to try and quantify, 56+ miles of groomed cross country & snowshoe trails, and at the base of one of New England's most beloved ski resorts that just keeps getting bigger and better: Sugarloaf.

When you come for a visit you can park your car in the driveway and leave it there for the duration of your stay if you want; hitting the bike trails literally just across the driveway or hopping on the free shuttle all geared up for the day on the slopes when it pulls up in front of our porch.

Nope, we're not kidding.

After a day of exploring all that so many love about Maine; come H.O.ME to complimentary cookies & warm beverages, hang in front of the fire or around the lawn games and chat with likeminded fresh air lovers, and hit the hay in a cozy private, family size, or bunk room. Continental breakfast in the morning is complimentary, and in true hostel form guests will have access to our professional kitchen to prepare any of their own meals during their stay.

We do plan to offer family style dinners for guests on Friday & Saturday nights but this will be phase II.

We can't wait for you to visit.

The Details
Hostel of Maine is an idea rooted in the same fundamentals as the classic Maine camp. Friends and families sharing space & making memories while having access to the Maine outdoors.

With bedroom options ranging from bunk rooms of 4-6 to a private room for couples and multiple rooms for families/groups of 4-5, we're working hard to create a space that will suit the needs of many types of travelers whose priority is quality accomodations at an affordable price. We want everyone to feel at home in our hostel.

THE NEED
This has been such a long journey we can hardly believe it's true, but right now we're under contract to purchase the B&B, with conditional approval from our bank, and almost 90% of the funds we need to open!

We've raised the majority of the down payment and starting capital from selling anything we could, working and saving as much money for the past two years as we possibly could, and having the incredible support of some friends and family.

But, we're still in need of $10k more by January 5th to bring this dream to life. We've talked to as many people as we can get to listen and everyone is excited; but what we need now is help. If we can't close this financial gap, we can't make H.O.ME happen.

Any additional funds will go 100% towards bringing phase II of H.O.ME to life sooner and hiring excellent staff to help make sure our first year goes off without a hitch!

THANK YOU
Your generosity means the world.
