From Ashley's Facebook. .. 181 days!!!!!!! That’s how many days ago our world got rocked forever. 181 days ago is when this rollercoaster ride of a disease came crashing into our lives. 181 days ago is when I got the call that would forever change our lives. 181 days ago is the day Jamie called and said, “I am at the ER and they think I have Cirrhosis!” This disease is brutal and we knew very little about it. I was told by others, “don’t worry, he’ll be fine he just has to take medication for it.” That is so far from the truth!!! Cirrhosis is chronic pain, insane swelling, crippling fatigue, insomnia, vomiting, nausea, draining, weekly/monthly trips to the ER and then all over again!! It’s constant, it’s chronic and it’s horrific!! Cirrhosis has stages 1-4 with different symptoms as you go but Cirrhosis a lot of times has little to no signs until the liver is extensively damaged. It’s a sneaky disease. He had never gotten bloodwork back from doctors saying liver enzymes were high or that bloodwork was not normal until November 2018 when diagnosed. Looking back there were a couple signs we/doctors didn’t catch that are symptoms of Cirrhosis but he was still very active up until mid November when he seemed to hit a brick wall and got so sick!! It was like a light switch went off!! But in telling you the whole story I find it necessary to also mention the reason for his Cirrhosis which is attributed to alcohol use/ diet, fatty liver that went to Cirrhosis. Some livers can handle it and some cannot. Cirrhosis is marked by a MELD score of 6-40, at 15 they recommend transplanting. Jamie went to hospital in November at a 20. We are currently at Piedmont Hospital at a 32. Wish we were celebrating 6 months of sobriety another way but we are so blessed and lucky to be here! This staff is amazing. Even though he doesn’t feel well it’s the first time through this whole process that I have been able to take a deep breath and feel like we are going to get the help we need to make him get better. They have been working diligently to get swelling down, his breathing issues fixed and kidneys in better working order, as those are starting to take a beating from this liver disease too. Transplant doctors are also working on his liver evaluation so hopefully we will find out by next Wednesday if he is eligible for a liver transplant. I ask for your prayers for my husband. He is an amazing loyal person that I love dearly and couldn’t imagine life without!! He is strong willed and fighting hard! I ask for your prayers for his beautiful daughter, Audrey, who is Jamie’s #1 love and is struggling with her dads sickness. I ask for your prayers that he starts feeling better and that we get some great news back next week on his eligibility for liver transplantation!!
