On August 1, 2018, Hassam Abdul Noor, while working for the ridehail company Uber, was instructed to cross the border into Mexico . Hassam along with his family are recent legal immigrants from Syria. While he has applied for a green card, his present immigration status does not allow him to leave the country and is currently being detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
This fundraising campaign is intended for the immediate financial needs of Hassam and his family including living expenses and legal costs. We do not know what those costs will be, any donations above and beyond their costs due to this event will be considered gifts to Hassam and his family and their disposition will be determined solely by them.
We do not know Hassam personally but, like many ridehail drivers in San Diego, strives to provide for his family as he starts out in this country. Let's minimize the financial effects the event will have on him, any donations will be greatly appreciated.
