Horses and Dragonflies

Donation protected

Our dear friend Catherine died from bowel cancer in 2014, at age 51.

Last year, a group of friends held the inaugural HORSES & DRAGONFLIES - CATHERINE OSWALD MEMORIAL NIGHT AT THE TROTS. The title represents her love of horses, this awesome event & the dragonfly story so close to her heart.

The event raised $11,000 for her 2 favourite charities… Sleapy’s Day and the Gawler Cancer Foundation. This year's event, to be held on October 19, will once again give us an opportunity to raise our glasses to Catherine and raise some funds and raise awareness about early detection of bowel cancer.

Many people were not able to attend this year's event for one reason or another and said they would still like to donate… so here is your opportunity to help out two amazing charities in honour of one amazing human Catherine Oswald.

We’d  like to take this opportunity to remind everyone that 80 Australians die from bowel cancer every week and early detection is the key to surviving bowel cancer. So PLEASE when you get your free bowel cancer screening kit - don’t ignore it! See it as the gift that it is - a gift that could save your life!

 About the Charities...

Sleapy’s Day originated in 2010 by Peter Sleap who was amazed by the groundswell of support he and his family received from his South Newcastle Rugby League community and his friends and colleagues. To pay it forward, “Sleapy’s Day” was established to raise funds and help people in the community that need it most. Families struggling with cancer or any adversity, that might need a hand paying medical bills, or need a ramp built, a fence mended, or just need to get away from the chemo chair for a weekend. Local people coming together to help local people.

The Gawler Cancer Foundation strives to improve the quality of life for people affected by cancer or multiple sclerosis through the delivery of lifestyle-focused cancer retreat programs. By taking a holistic approach through meditation, nutrition, emotional healing and helping find a purpose and meaning in life these retreats provide restoration and transformation to many lives. Catherine greatly valued her time at the Yarra Valley retreat and appreciated the help she received there.
