Rev. Hope Gorman Emergency Fund

Tax deductible

THE STORY
On Saturday, April 15, Rev. Hope was preparing for a "Grammy Super-Sleepover" at her daughter's house with her granddaughter (5) and two grandsons (3 and 7).  Hope set up camp chairs around the fire ring in the driveway and then asked her daughter to go to the store. While her daughter was gone, Hope began to light the tiki torches while the kids played in the yard. One of the torches exploded as Hope was lighting it. As a result, she suffered first and second degree burns of her hands, arms, and abdomen. She also received a third degree burn on her right arm, which she used to shield her face from the explosion.

Hope is receiving care at the Regions Hospital Burn Unit in St. Paul. She is scheduled to have a skin graft for her arm next week. She will spend another week in the hospital after surgery and her extensive recovery will involve managing her pain, preventing infection, optimizing her nutrition, resting, and physical therapy for her hand as the new skin begins to grow.

A PASSIONATE WOMAN'S WISH
While at her bedside, her daughter Cara asked Hope, "what is your biggest concern?" It wasn't her pain, it wasn't her burns, but it was her work. Many times Hope has stated, "HIC is like her baby". She is the driving force behind the Hope Interfaith Center, and her greatest anxiety is seeing the mission falter or fail as a result of an extended absence. The last thing we want for Hope is to be concerned about the failure of the mission due to financial losses. More than anything, her wish is to keep the temple on the hill and the Mission of Oneness and Love Alive and Thriving within the community.
