Last Fall my beautiful cousin Laura Jischke Stone became sick with what she thought was a persistent cold and cough. She went to the Dr.  and the Dr. gave her medication thinking that would resolve the problem. Not long after our wonderful grandmother became ill in December and we found out she had small cell lung cancer, our wonderful beautiful, vibrant grandmother died just days after her birthday in early January.  Just weeks after saying goodbye to our beloved grandmother my beautiful, vibrant cousin Laura, still feeling sick and drained from this illness she could not shake since fall,  after numerous tests, including a CT scan, endoscopic procedure, a visit with an oncologist and an MRI & PET scan, Laura found out that she had stage 4 non small cell lung cancer which had spread to various parts of her body. My cousin Laura has bravely and vigorously fought and is still fighting this horrible disease. However, Laura has had a very discouraging set back. The chemo she has been getting is no  longer working and they will be trying a much stronger chemo. The doctor has given her maybe 6 months at this time. Although we  remain hopefull in her fight we are also very saddened and heartbroken by this news. She is, as many are that are diagnosed...way too young to be fighting this battle. My cousin worked hard and has dedicated her whole life to her work and her 2 young adult children and her grandchildren, her family and her friends. She has always cared for everyone and has been generous throughout her life sharing what she has with those she loves. Those who know Laura knows what a wonderful, funny, loving, strong, caring human being she is... but sadly at this time Laura is now unable to work and needs as much support as possible. She should be taking care of herself and concentrating on her health and family at this time  without worrying about her finances and building medical costs. Please pray for my cousin Laura and donate if possible. Any amount will help, no donation is too small and please share this with those you know who know Laura.. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and for your prayers and positive thoughts.

We love you Laura! Stay strong my beautiful, brave cousin! Oxoxox

❤From Laura❤Doing another update as I got some really great news the other day and I would like to share some good news for a change. I have finished all my cyber knife treatments for the brain tumor. My follow up appointment is this Friday and I am hoping they take me off the steroid I am allergic to. The allergy has caused so many issues coughing, periods of breathlessness, extreme swelling, headaches, and insomnia. They told me I had to take it for swelling of the brain and I had really no other option but to deal with the side effects so I am really going to push getting off of this med dexamethasone. Most likely he will order another brain MRI in 4 weeks and will compare the first MRI with the new MRI to find out if my treatment actually was successful. After that I will most likely have MRIs every three months as this is usually what lung cancer does travels to the brain. I have talked to others that have had up to 9 tumors. This is very scary to me so you bet I will be keeping on top of the follow ups and will be watching every little headache or symptom that could be a part of a brain tumor. Well I pushed ahead as soon as the cyber knife was over and met with internal radiatiogist on the liver tumor. This tumor was quite large at 3.8cm. The doctor told me they could treat the tumor with a procedure called ablation which would kill the tumor with heat or I could have specialized radiation called radio embolization where radio active beads are injected into the artery. This treatment would take time and would have to be monitored just like the brain. Saying this ablation was the preferred method. I had to have a liver MRI to make sure the tumor wasn't too close to my gallbladder. I had the MRI done and the doctor just called me back and told me the pet scan was wrong!! There is no tumor in the liver and no need to follow up!!!! This was the best news I had heard in awhile I couldn't believe it I am so happy. Really once the cancer travels to the liver there are limited options and it is not a good sign, so this news was welcomed!!! I am continuing with my regular treatments of keytruda and I will go to the next thing on my list breast and stomach. I will see a GI doctor again and try to get rid of the cdif I have and most likely get a colonoscopy to see what's going on there. As for the breast there where issues with the left breast so I think they will most likely want to biopsy. But I am still hanging in and fighting. The insurance is killing me as far as payments and price but I will keep fighting. Thank you all for your prayers and your support you make it possible for me to get out of bed everyday and fight! I love you all so much ❤️❤️❤️Love you and thank you so much for the support I love you ❤️

This is the most recent update from Laura....

I have decided to do another update as there are a lot of things going on with me lately!! I have started my keytruda treatments. That is going pretty good. I just am tired a few days after the treatment. I have had a breast scan which located a few lumps in both breasts. The oncologist is going to schedule a biopsy to check further into that. I had a head MRI done this past Thursday which revealed that I have a lesion about 2 cm in the brain. This is the scariest of issues. It is causing swelling in the brain and will need to be radiated immediately. I have been put on a high dose of steroids to reduce swelling and will need cyber knife surgery to remove the lesion. I am meeting with the radiology oncologist Monday. I am really scared about this. This will be fast tracked due to the severity of the issue. I have a PET scan scheduled this Friday by the GI doctor and my oncologist. This is for the repeated stomach issues that I have been dealing with. I will follow up with them both after I have the scan to see what the next move is with the stomach, but I believe it is a colonoscopy. I am currently in three different medicines to try to control the stomach aches and none of them are working 100%. I am still being denied for Medicaid, so a lot more has been coming out of my pocket for prescriptions, doctors visits, tests, and premiums. This has been very hard so I hope that fund raiser that my sister is working on really helps because lord knows I need it. Sorry that I don't have better news but I am trying to stay positive so please pray for me and I really hope to see you at the fund raiser Krista has all the details ❤️❤️
I love you

Well guys, Laura is not doing too well right now. She has been fighting an infection and because of the infection she cannot have her treatments. She is in a great deal of pain even with all the prescribed medications. She believes the cancer may have now spread to her liver and stomach. They do not believe the opdivo is working anymore. They did say that some of the tumors increased in size from 11 to now a 14. Laura's infection needs to clear now before they can do any further scans. The Drs are trying to see if they have enough genetic material from her last biopsy to check for a marker that could get her on a different drug treatment but she has not heard back yet. If that does not work then she will go back on chemo. I know this is difficult for us all to even think about but Laura has decided to sign a DNR in the case that she stops breathing at any time as well as a denial of feeding tubes. She has also decided to be a donor if there is anything left that is viable. I know no one wants to hear these things or even think about them at all but sadly these are the decisions that Laura has had to make. HOWEVER guys, Laura is NOT giving up! Laura is still in serious need of a Medicaid Lawyer. If anyone has one please send the information Laura's way. Laura was given a final hearing for medicaid on 12/21/16 to prove she is medically needy in order to have medicaid reinstated as some of you may know she had medicaid revoked because they said she makes too much money on social security disability. Which most people who have any experience with SSD know that is a complete joke. Anyway, with all that being said laura cannot afford the ACA insurance. The deductable is $6500 and the monthly payments are 300 per month which she cannot afford. We want to get her deductable and her monthly payments covered so she can continue to get the medical treatments she desperatly needs. She is not ready to give up and die and we are not ready to let her. So lets get this gofund me shared as much as possible. Please donate even if it is just 5.00 because every cent counts! Every dollar matters. Laura is not ready to give up and niether are we. So please help if you can. Laura, her family, her friends, we are all so greatful and appreciative of all the help and kindness Laura has received and continues to receive. Thank you all so very much, words cannot even express how thankful we are for every one of you! ❤

This is a recent update from Laura which you can also view on her facebook page (Hope for Laura) ..."today I went with my mom to try to appeal the Medicaid decision so I could keep my Medicaid. The caseworker told me that I again make too much and they only make exceptions for breast and cervical cancer and they do not have to be terminal. So I guess I am dying of the wrong kind of cancer even. I didn't realize that the state could discriminate against me for the type of cancer I have. I need a lawyer that will work for cheep to help me with my "fair" hearing that Illinois will supposedly give me." This should upset everyone who reads this, this is just adding insult to injury. Laura needs everyone's support now than ever. Please donate if you can even if it is just a couple of dollars. Every little bit helps. . And please share her page, please share her gofund me. Even if you cannot donate please take just a moment to share this. We thank you all so much for your love, kindness and support❤
